Well I was finally able to get out with my brand new 1911 (108282 model) last night. I really like the looks and feel of this gun. However, I have to say, I was a little disappointed in myself.

The gun felt great and I can tell I am really going to like this thing down the road, but my shots were all over the target. It was so bad I was starting to think that maybe the sights were off. However after my wife picked it up and promptly put a few in a nice grouping just outside the bullseye I knew the only problem was with me... While I have fired some 9mm semi autos before, never a 45.

I then picked up my 686 and no such problems. Back to the 1911 and I settled in a little better but still not good.

Sorry for the venting, but I'm looking forward to the next trip to work out the kinks. The E series seems to be mentioned a lot on here, but not too much mention of the 108282.

Is the 108282 the PD model?

No, product code 108282 is the standard stainless model with black checkered hard rubber grips and fixed rear sight. I suspect the accuracy issue is due to the big difference between the 9mm you're used to, and the .45 ACP in this model. It really does take a lot of time to get proficient with a .45 semi-auto, but it'll come. Btw, unlike a revolver, it doesn't hurt the gun to dry fire a semi-auto, so practice your aim, grip and trigger pull that way - a lot!

The S&W 1911 45 auto 108282 is a fine pistol, I have one, and I never ever make a bad choice. Well, at least not when it comes to buying guns. Regarding your shooting, you said that you never fired a 45 before, problem identified, you are probably anticipating the recoil, stop that.
