New 3913/First Post/Range Report

Hopefully you bought a lottery ticket the same day you bought that
pistol! Looks like a nice gun. One thing you might consider is an
extended slide stop lever. They allow you to thumb the lever without
changing your grip. Forum member bad_man_one alters S&W levers to
fix this problem. I'm anxiously awaiting two for a couple of my 3rd Gens
& I'm pretty sure I'm going to order another. PM him.

I suggest you keep dating her. The more time you spend with her, the more she'll grow on you. She's from a classy bloodline, and she'll show you her true colors if you just keep taking her out and showing her a good time. A keeper for sure.

Good shootin' to ya.:D

You got a great deal on a really nice example of one of the finest carry (AND range, AND house..) guns ever made. Sounds like you shot well enough on your first range trip. You will get better with it but you are probably right in that it may be capable of more than you can wring out of it. (That's not a bad thing. Worse would be if you were a better shot and the gun couldn't "keep up" with you.)

Regarding the DA trigger. Most people I've shot with who've had problems with DA stem from trying to stage the trigger up to practically a single action let-off point. If you do end up carrying it, you'll want to get good with that first shot. I've found that a better DA method is to go for a smooth but relatively swift, complete STROKE of the trigger instead. You can still get really accurate with that first shot with enough practice.

Nice find and welcome to the forum and "3913 Club"!
I found one yesterday at the local show for $399! And just bought four mags online from S&W!
I blame 18DAI for helping to drain my wallet(;)), but these are the best concealment nines out there! And at one time these and the Glock 19 were to two most popular CCW pistols. The G-19 is still with us, damn shame the 3913 isn't! Dale

Badkarma 1 After awhile you get to like the taste of Ramen noodles, everyday. ;)

Congrats on your 3913!! :) Regards 18DAI

I may need to pick up her ugly cousin to wear out.

Sorry to disagree with you on this, the Lady Smith does not have any ugly cousins......

I, too, blame 18DAI & also Rags for my 3rd Gen addiction. I
stumbled onto this forum looking for info on my M&P40C, &
one of the first things I saw was pics of their 3rd Gens. After
that, it was get the net because I was headed for the boat!

I agree, 18DAI is an enabler and I too am a victim.

That is a find from heaven! I just this weekend picked up my 3913 to replace the 3913LS that I stupidly sold 15 years ago and have been kicking myself in the butt ever since! I also grabbed a CS9 to go with her! My only problem now is do I carry the CS9, 3913 or the 908 in blue I picked up at Christmas along with a 457 in blue? I dumped all the tupperware out of the inventory and returned to the Smith 3rd Gen family and I will never look back again!

k-code - those are her fine looking sisters, I meant her ugly cousin the m&p :)

Grasshopper, you are forgiven.

all joking aside, take the Lady Smith out and shoot the snot out of it. I'm left handed so my LS is not my favorite, it was bought for the wife. The standard 3913 gets used the most, then the early TSW. The 3914 doesn't get shot at all, it almost NIB in condition.

k code - I really like your early pre-rail TSW. If only I can find one at a good price, I might be tempted. Though that one definitely seems to be the hard one to find. I have yet to see one for sale anywhere.

BTW, looks like you need to add a late model railed TSW to your line-up to finish out the 3913 DA/SA collection........ :)

I'm looking for the 9 tactical, just haven't found it yet. Not real crazy about the rail series but got to keep it in the family.

Going forward I think I am going to lighten the trigger pull through a lighter main spring and a polish...

My 908 trigger pull, out of the box, had a heavy/not smooth feeling. I disassembled the entire pistol and used a Dremel felt wheel with fine polishing compound to burnish the internal parts that had potential for friction (drawbar, pivot pins, etc.). I used #600 emery paper to polish the insides of things like the hammer pin hole. The DA trigger stroke is immensely better, as is the SA letoff. Next, I will look into a Wolff mainspring.

Yank those Hogues off and slap that straight grip on. I had the same issue with my 4566, the grip never seeming to settle in place, so I put factory straight grips on and never looked back. Made all the difference in the world.

I was teased at the range about my Ladysmith and had only one reply. A gunsmith works on guns. Paul Revere, silversmith, worked on silver. OK, although I'm a little long in the tooth to do it a lot, I work on...
