Well after many months of trying to decide which .44 I finally picked up a new 4" 629. I've waited and watched for a local deal on a used one, but no such luck, every thing but a 4" has been listed for sale.
This latest model has the new grip with the covered backstrap.
This is going to be a CCW for Huckleberry picking, hiking, fishing, hunting and bumming around in the Central to Northern Rockies from the eastern plains to the high mountain tops.
For many years I've relied upon a 1911 in 10mm, and still will, but I've been venturing further north recently and for critters over 500 pounds the 10mm is a bit on the light side.
For hunting it will be a belt gun, while calling predator's to a rifle.
I had to sell my last 629 a 6.5" Deluxe a few years ago, due to the economy crash...it's been tough on my small business, hopefully I'll be able to hang onto this one for awhile. Man I hate selling my guns, I've only had to do it once in my lifetime...not a pleasant experience.
I'm going to order a Simply Rugged Pancake and I already have a good 1.5" Milt Sparks gunbelt and some suspenders.
I'll probably be visiting more often over here, you guy's have been a big help even though I've mostly lurked and read most .44 posts I could find.
I've taken to carrying a 442 in town recently, I alternate between it and a long time carried Kahr PM9, but having started out with revolvers back in the 70's and 80's, then switching to auto's, I'm making a move back into the revolvers and of course for a woods gun, the .44 picks up were the 10mm leaves off.
I'll probably be visiting the reloading forum a bit, since I don't shoot much factory any more.
I'm getting older and it will be interesting to see what my old wrists can still handle, but it should be fun I'm looking forward to it.
My first loads will be mild 240 grain LSWC running nice and slow, then I'll work my way up.
