This is going to be a lot of fun.
After I had brought this home, and was checking things out, my Mrs. walked by, picked it up, and said "nice I can use this".
I might have a problem later...

I'm glad she is interested.
Later this spring I think I better get another but maybe a 627.
This one is a nice shooter, it's easy to hit my old fence post target at 25 yards.
Can't wait until those gophers start showing up.

The 617 is nice - you'll enjoy it. Took me several months to get mine after I ordered it - in the meantime I also bought a 63. They're both great .22's.

Better buy another one now, or did she mean to use it on you;)

I would second that recomendation. However, you might want to consider either a 317 or model 18 so that His and Hers can be clearly differentiated. If you don't, at some point you'll find that it's become "Her" 617 because they really are a lot of fun to shoot.

What is rather odd to me is that the heaviest handgun that I currently own is my 6 inch 617. With the red dot mounted on it it's noticeably heavier than my 6 1/2 inch 610. However, it sure is a lot of fun to shoot with and off the bench I can make really tiny groups in the target. In addition, the weight lifting with the 617 has resulted in me shooting the 610 a bit better.

I also recomend putting some type of red dot or reflex sight on these guns. It's probably the only way that us old farts can come close to shooting up to their accuracy potential and I have found they are simply superb for refining the trigger stroke because they really magnify any movement during the trigger pull.

i took my oldest boy (10 yo) and boy #2 (8 yo)to the range and we shot my 617 6 shoot, well they shot every bullet i had of stingers and broke ever skeet i set up. i did however get the last 4 bullets and partial skeet left. while we cleaned up i felt theirs eyes on me and new they had been conspiring against me. my oldest asked how old i was and i replied "i'm 37 why?". then from left field my #2 boy asked when you die who are you going to leave that gun too? love those boys so went right out and bought a mod 17. they can fight over who gets what, on secound thought, i think i'll let my little girl decide i might as well have the last laugh. Doeboy

they are alot of fun accurate i have a 617-6 10 shot 6 inch i seen a new 617 4 inch 10 shot sell for over $900 on gunbroker last week they are nice but i would not pay more the $700 for one

Yes this is a sweet shooter!
I should not have waited so long to have one.

I would be very interested in what red dot sight is best to use.
If anyone has a suggestion, I'd be grateful.
25 yards, (+/-) would be my effective range.
Gophers, rattlesnakes, rock chucks etc. will be the work.

Thanks

The 617 is a heavier K frame gun than the other K frame calibers because the cylinder holes are smaller, therefore there is more metal in the 6-shot cylinder, maybe the 10-shot as well. There is also more metal in the barrel, because the bore is smaller.
