NEW 629 and 686 NO LOCK MOUNTAIN GUNS ANNOUNCED!

I love it, but we who have 686-5s and earlier be like

No medallions on the grips, and they seem to have some kind of a dry finish. They are still probably Atramonts but made to a different specification. They will sell big time. Just hope the QC is there. They could go back to the old cylinder release latch too

The video that Lipsey's put out advises that the grips are actual walnut grips and are made by Tyler Gun Works. They look substantial and snazzy in the footage shown!

Oh, man! I’m in the market for a .44 Mag in 2025. Wonder if they’ll release a no-lock 6” 629 Classic?

Interesting video,
Ball detent, Patridge blade slightly angled back with brass bead, flash chromed hammer trigger, tapered frame to meet barrel rib all nice touches,
On the other hand the grips meh, cardboard box ? That's uh weird, meh.
Almost looks roll stamped Tm but probably deeper laser etching, definately will end up getting one, personally would prefer medallions in the stocks and white outline rear blade, since we are in wishful thinking mode a set of retro Cokes from Eagle, a large right side Tm and a square butt frame would be even better but not gonna look this gift horse in the mouth...
Thank you Lipseys !

Ps I do have a 686-5 Mg but this one is different enough that it requires getting one.

I see the MSRP of the model 19 without the IL is $110 higher than the one with it. It seems S & W has taken the Colt marketing model of people will pay a higher price for a more desirable product, which is a good thing.
The No Lock Model 19 Classic is $110 more than the standard version with the lock. If I had not just bought a Model 19-9 Classic in December, I am sure I would have gladly spent the extra money for one without a lock.

Right now, the No Lock 686+ is the one that I want next. But sadly, it is not yet California compliant. I am hoping for that to change.

Smith & Wesson's website says it comes with a plastic box. I hope that is true.

Also back to 1 piece barrels, another step back to sanity.
When did Smith & Wesson make a 686 with a two piece barrel? My 617-6 does not have a two piece barrel either. My K frame Models 19-9 and 66-8, are the only Smith & Wessons I own with two piece barrels. Both of them are fantastic revolvers and they will both shoot as well as I can on my best day.

686 (no dash), 1981 Introduction model
686-1, 1986 radius stud package, floating hand
686-2, 1987 changed hammer nose, bushing and associated parts
686-3, 1988 new yoke retention system
686-4, 1993 change rear sight leaf, drill and tap frame, change extractor, Hogue grips
686-5, 1997 change frame design to eliminate cylinder stop stud, eliminate serrated tangs, MIM hammer and trigger, change internal lock.
686-6, 2001 internal lock
686-7, 2003 Performance Center .38 Super, 6-Shot unfluted cylinder, 4" barrel, Stainless Steel, 250 Made

New models

This is a great move by Smith. Revolvers are making a comeback and if the barrels are straight, and they fire the cartridge when the trigger is pulled they will sell a ton.
Why was this move so hard for them ?

I am wondering what the - number will be for the 629. will they go to 629-7 or go back to 629-5, which this one looks like.
