Hey guys I just picked up this nice 686 plus with these nice woodgrips, hogue grip, bianchi holster and case for $450... Here is my ? guys.... I already have a 686 no dash 6" and this newer model has a better trigger(single and double) and he said he bought it new like that. The weird thing is when I pull the hammer back it feels like it will cock but then takes more pressure to cock it fully towards the end almost like a 2 stage trigger. Is this because of the lock ? If so its understandable but if not I wonder if this was a super tuned model that came from the factory,,, I would guess the DA pull is around 4-5lbs and the SA around 1.5-2lbs... Just curious guys as Iam not familiar with these with the lock...

Unless you are using a trigger pull gauge, I suspect you may be underestimating the pull weights. That said, I have a fairly new 686-6 that came from the factory with a very light, crisp SA pull. Probably no more than 3 lb. The DA pull wasn't bad, but I did some polishing and spring changes and now have it to about 6 lb. I really doubt that S&W would knowingly let a gun out of the factory with a 1lb trigger pull. No matter what the trigger pull, the deal you got was almost criminal.:D Hard to find a new 686 for under $700.

The lock should have no effect on the action.
I had a 686 SSR that was rough when cocking single action. It cocked OK but was rough when the hammer moved from fully rearward to resting back on the sear. A trip to S&W resolved the problem

That sounds like someone unscrewed the main spring strain screw. This produces a binding of the main spring when cocking single action, when the screw is backed out too much. I'll bet that if you remove the grips that the screw is loose. If the screw is backed out, tightening will solve your binding and increase the trigger pull weights.

+1

Well just to let you know, I tightened the mainspring screw in 1 turn and it eliminated that hammer creep or resistance if thats what its called. I didnt know the screw had alot to do with the trigger pull and since it does what is it supposed to be set at..Thanks for the tips guys it must have added a pound or so to the DA pull but the SA is still great... Thanks rick
