NEW ATF DIRECTIVE considered on 5.56 ammo

Take a look at some of the online ammo sites...most M855 is "notify me when available". Seems like folks have been busy on Valentines Day buying some for their sweetie :)

Many sites were selling it at 3AM in the morning at a faster rate than anything else on their site at peak times. I've seen it available at 12,500 round drum for around $4700 still (Natchez). But I bet it will be gone soon or jacked way up.

This is what happens when even the threat of a ban happens and it is why I already have a "decent" amount of ammo on hand. It's only a matter of time before it happens again.

The speedy 7.62x25 tokarev round goes through body armor.
If you look at Reeds ammo there are some rocket speed velocities with the tokarev pistol round.

Just think all that first importation of the 7.62x39 surplus ammo was steel core. We all shot it up faster than 22's.

Always something. After all these years, it's suddenly an item of concern and needs to be stopped? What the heck.

Ridiculous.

As was found out at the Battle of Mogadishu when the rounds were just drilling little holes straight through the people being shot. They had no armor to defeat, just thin cotton shirts.

bob

My son said it was the same when he was in Ramadi in '05-'06.

Who said we shot up all our 7.6 x39 steel core faster than we shot up .22?

I don't know about u, but I have plenty of both. All is well down here in the south.

I have served my country for 19 years and will continue to do so untill Uncle Sam has used me all up and decided I ain't no good to him anymore...... That being said I LOVE MY COUNTRY, I hate my government. I AM SO MAD RIGHT NOW!!!! It wouldn't make any sense for me to call/writethe ATF right now. I have also been watching Sons of Liberty........... So I'm good and fired up. What in the heck are those AR pistols good for? Nothing personnel, just don't see the point. Just like when somebody says "I use my AR for home defense". In my opinion, not a good idea. Shotgun, is what I think. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my AR, in fact I'm saving for another. I shouldn't blame the AR pistols. But what are those ATF guys thinking? Pistol..... Shorter barrel, less velocity......rifle, longer barrel, more velocity...... That ammo had been fine till now. Am I right? Wrong? So mad, can't think straight. Can I sue the ATF if I have a stroke? :D

What has to happen to make these democrats realize that these "laws" they create to make our society "safer" only hurts the law abiding citizens who are busting their rear ends to make a living and pay for all their BS government hand out programs. WHY DO THEY KEEP PUNISHING THE ONES WHO PAY THE BILLS? I'm still pretty mad ;):D

TOPIC: I object BATFE proposed ban on M855 ammunition

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing to object to the proposal to ban "M855" ammunition and projectiles as described in your agency letter titled: "Framework for Determining Whether Certain Projectiles are 'Primarily Intended for Sporting Purposes' Within the Meaning of 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(17)(c)."

Please DO NOT restrict this ammunition.

There are millions and millions of rounds of this ammunition in circulation.
Thousands of shooters use this ammunition every day for bona fide sporting purposes.

I am unaware of even ONE INSTANCE of this ammunition being used in a handgun, and for the purpose of defeating body armor of any law enforcement officer. This proposed ban on M855 ammunition is a solution in search of a problem. There is no need whatsoever for this ammunition to be banned.

Please do not ban M855 ammunition or projectiles.

Respectfully,

If it's a head shot does it matter whether the last thing that goes through the deceased mind is steel or lead?

The BATFE is yet another of the "alphabet" Agencies that could blow away and short of a huge saving$ in Taxpayer funds....NO ONE would notice their passing.

Inefficient fools can't even approve the forms for a suppressor in under 4-6 months time and that's the BEST case scenario. The Local LE Official who SIGNS the form for them did most of the work already.

Before people go and buy this up, please read the history of it. It was made to shoot through Soviet helmets at 800yds. It is a dog of a load. The reason you want to write BATF is because it ties up their resources as they have to respond to everyone.

M855 was designed for maximum efficiency in a 20" barrel (M16) and for fragmentation within 300 yards from such velocities (as expanding ammunition is not allowed for military use). The thickness of the target, yaw angle of the round when striking, and terminal velocity all make a difference in performance. In general, as designed, it is an effective close range round and offers only adequate penetration at longer ranges.

In shorter barrels and under less than favorable conditions it leaves much to be desired.

Those that blame AR pistols, don't blame us...these guns have been around for decades.

The Federal definition for AP ammo calls for an all hardened metal or all hardened metal alloy core. The 7n6 that was banned last year nor the M855/SS109 meet those definitions. The ATF has their own opinions which are technically erroneous.

I would easily choose my 10.5" AR pistol over my shotgun and my 7" pistol is the funnest and most entertaining firearm I have.

I guarantee this is something handed down from Obama and/or Holder as a defacto ban and further restriction.

Like their latest "shouldering a pistol makes an illegal SBR" opinion there is no basis in logic here.

This ammunition is often chastised for its performance in the M4's 14.5" barrel so the performance in AR pistols which are most often well under 12" renders the ATF's reasoning moot.

Folks get mad at other gun owners over a stupid decision a government agency decrees on their own whim and accord. Some of ya'll need to redirect your energy.
