I have a S&W 66 with a 6" barrel and would like a 4". I have been looking for it for about a year now but no luck so far. So my question is; is there anyone out there who still makes barrels? My google-ing has turned up nothing for the k-frame.

Anyone who makes them? I don't quite understand. Only Smith & Wesson made factory barrels. I assume you want a factory barrel, so you'll have to check with the factory to see if they still have one left. They show it as obsolete on their webpage, but may still have one. Here's the part number and specs:

074060000 $141.80 X BARREL 4.125" - (OBS)

Otherwise, they do turn up for sale on occasion on Gunbroker.

If you're wanting an aftermarket slab side PPC-style barrel, there are a couple of custom makers. Aristrocrat, I think, was one.

Here's one they show that isn't marked obsolete. The abreviations tell you that it wouldn't be for a pinned frame, but that doesn't matter. That's an easy fix. The R/R mean red ramp front sight.

216740000 $148.06 -5 BARREL ASSY 4" R/R

S&W was the barrel maker. When they quit making the magnum K frames, they quit making barrels. If the factory doesn't have any more, you're stuck with shopping places like Numrich/Gun Parts Inc.

You can always get your 6 inch barrel shortened to 4 inches. The front sight would have to be relocated and the make and model/caliber markings on the barrel will no longer be centered, but it will work.

Alternatives:

If there is sufficient demand, the factory might consider making a run of spare barrels. Don't hold your breath.

Should a distributor special order a run of magnum K frames, there will be a small number of extra barrels available. Again, don't hold your breath.

If money is no object, you can always take the piece to a custom gunsmith and get a quote on carving a new barrel from a blank. Take a bank reference.

Thanks everyone! Sorry for the vague post; by making the barrel I did mean custom but that is very expensive. Thanks for the heads up on gunbroker! I want to keep the 6" as it will match the box and papers. This is my first wheelgun(used to hate them now my go to..funny huh) and I will never sell it but would like to keep all the original parts. Again thanks everyone!
