My search skills on the forum are lacking, I must not know how to use the proper key words.

I am sure this has been covered but I can't find it.

I recently purchased new Starline brass in 45 AR and 357 mag. and don't know if I should size it or not before priming it.

I primed about 250 of the AR brass before this questiion occured to me.

How about it fellas do you resize new brass? Thanks Dave.

Yes! But as they are straight wall cases you will probably be fine.

Starline makes good brass and should be very consistent.

Load a few and if they chamber fine, then no problem.

As a general rule all new brass should be sized and de- burred/chamfered.

If it was rifle brass like 223, I would say de prime and start over.

It is probably not necessary on Starline 357 brass but it won't hurt to run it through a sizing die and it will give you a more consistent product.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't notice the small dents until now, thanks for the heads up. I will resize the brass that hasn't been primed yet.

Thanks again, Dave

I just run them over the expander to round the case mouth and bell slightly, just like used cases.

If you can feel drag when pulling the case out of the expander die then lightly lubricate every 4th-5th case inside the neck to keep the brass from galling on the expander ball. New brass is absolutely clean, without any residual powder fouling that serves to adequately lubricate the expander and avoid galling.

My expanders for pistols only squeezes the outside of the case so would do nothing for dents in the brass, the expander will take out dents but as long as the bullet goes in ok then the taper crimp will take care of everything in the case mouth area.

I wouldn't worry about the ones you already primed and i would go ahead and finish loading them. If they were for a semi-auto it would worry me a little but for use in a revolver, not a problem IMO.

I size mine to make sure I get uniform neck tension. Starline is good brass, but it doesn't take long to size them, and it does help with ballistic consistency.
