I got this CS9 here on the forum, Took it to the range today, along with the 3913 I posted last week, to be sure they both worked.

The CS9 shot pretty well. This is 20 rounds at about 25 feet. I pitched one to the right on a double action shot. I am still learning the right angle on my progressive lenses to see the sights well. (old age is not for sissies)

Do you plan on having the painted over night sights re-lamped?

Looks nice...I shot my CS9 last week ... absolutely love it...also have the ladysmith 9 which is also a great shooter and mags work in the CS9, and in the same bag, and got a few mags of action also...I was thinking of IDPA with either because I have a bunch of mags...anyone else do IDPA with gen 3's ?

Here is the target from the 3913. Same 25-30 ft range, only 15 rounds.

Also I weighed the CS9 and the 3913 with full magazines And my favorite old warhorse with and 8 round load for comparison.

CS9; 1 lb 9.6 oz (7 rounds)
3913; 1 lb 11.3 oz (8 rounds)
645: 2 lb 12.2 oz. (8 rounds)

It does not have night sights it has white dots.

Yes, they became white dot sights after the dead tritium tubes were painted over - a tube and white outline are visible in your third picture.

Question: How do you choose which one to carry? I have a CS9 and 3014LS and am always conflicted about which one to tuck into my belt.

And to add to my confusion there's my choice of CS45 or a SW99 in .40 (and a Shield 9mm EZ and 6906).

I confess being slightly embarrassed by a plethora of riches but Smith's are my hobby and I worked hard to afford them. But I still get confused about which one to take along when I'm out. How do you decide?

Redcoat, I carry the 645 when wearing a jacket. I also have a 5906TSW I can carry when it is dark and I want to have a bunch of boolits. Those two weigh about the same loaded out.

Right now the CS9 and 3913 are new kids on the block and we will see which I like the best.

You cannot have too many Stainless Steel S&W autos. I have 4 grandchildren, and now they only have one each.

Here are my 3 S&W 9mm sights

I am not sure I can see what "tube" you are noting. Maybe, but not sure. The CS9 has certainly been repainted.

I'm lucky to have some of the flush fit 7rd mags that shipped with early Ladysmiths so my 3913/14s are the same height as the CS9 with it's extended mag; I carry IWB so I passed on the CS guns when they came out!

That said I generally carry the 39xx in warmer months and switch to a 6906 in cooler weather..... thou lately a hi-cap 9 is getting the nod if I'm away from my Burb of the Burg.

If they are night sights and they are Trijicon, it would be foolish not to have them relamped. Trijicon will do it for $57. I've sent back every used 3rd Gen I have that had dead night sights. Well worth it.

I have a CS9 , 40/10mm and 45 . They've all been tuned by BMCM , which really wakes them up . While the younger / plastic gun crowd might poo-poo the idea of the CS pistols , cause they don't hold 12+- rounds , I think they are great carry guns . If need be , you can always carry another mag or two and you're good to go .
Heinz , were you at the symposium in June ?

All of this reinforces my belief that S&W should have done a proper 39XX-series with the barrel length of the CS9, but without the later's blocky slide profile and plastic mag button.

I agree with you on this. I like my CS9 but Smith could have done it better.

In making the CS series, Smith borrowed heavily from there value line guns.

The result was guns that were good but could have been a bit sleaker and more refined.

I also consider the dead night sights a great bonus and would do the same.

Did not mean to be coy. I am not planning on replacing the nite light, if it has one.

I didn't think you were and that's certainly your prerogative.

Something to consider is the almost 5 ounce (unloaded) difference between the two.
