Hey Guys....Thanks to everyone for your help and Advice....finally decided on the S&W .38 Special Victory Model I want.......and it should be here this friday....and hopefully this photo will show up.....it looks almost mint and unissued......but as soon as it comes into the gunshop...(which has indoor range)...gonna go put about 50 rounds thru it......and seriously considering making it my "Carry Pistol"......so let me know what you guys think.....and again....this has to be the Best Forum on the Internet......Thanks again for all your help...........Hans Fischer

Nice find. Guys carried them in war, so it should do the deal. I would try 158 lswc loads. Skip the +P, IMHO.

Gerhard that's a nice victory but is it a VS before the serial or a S stamped on the side-plate? The navy had a sailor killed when he dropped his revolver and it fired. So S&W install'd a new hammer block on VS stamped guns and one's with a S on the side-plate. So be carefull carrying a round under the hammer on a gun without the new hammer block.

IMHO the victory and the 1917's are some of the most
collectable s&w's out there. so much history in each gun..

be careful if you use +P ammo. very nice victory!!

Hans, I agree with all of the above. Nice revolver, understated elegance. I personaly would skip the the +P and stick with target loads. Preserve that beauty. Is that the original finish? Sonora

Hans, Be sure and get a factory letter for your new Victory model. I'm betting it's a Guard Gun, sent to the DSC for civilian use during WW2, as you seldom see a military issued gun in mint condition. Guard guns often letter to very interesting destinations. Any military markings or stampings on the gun? Serial number?
When you say it may be your "carry gun", do you mean concealed carry?
Unless you are a big man, effectively concealing a 4 in. K frame can be a challenge! Good Luck, Ed.

New Girl In Town

Hey guys...thanks for the nice words......I got on the S&W site and printed off the form to send to Smith & Wesson for the history on the pistol....the fee now is $50.00......and I will let you all know what it says when it comes back....also...I will go over it with a glass and look for any markings......speaking of using it for my "Carry weapon"...yes...it would be Concealed....I dont believe in "open carry"...its just asking for someone to come up behind you and take it away....my youngest son is a Metro Police Detective and he agrees..........as for carrying.....Im 6' and weigh 225#.....down from 246# after having heart surgery....and work out 3 times a week...so that is gonna hopefully come down another 20 or so pounds...///...anyway...the Victory is scheduled to arrive tomorrow....so I will be posting tomorrow nite......and today .I ordered the WW2 style shoulder holster with belt loops from Pacific Canvas and Leather.....nice folks....Ive dealt with them for a number of years.......thanks again guys.......I appreciate your compliments......Hans Fischer

It's your gun and your decision, but that is a nice, collectable Victory model. Using it as a carry / shooter is only going to add wear to the finish and reduce it's value. There are better carry guns out there. Nice S&W Model 10's are plentiful and reasonably priced and would be better for every day carry. Just my opinion.
