Hello all:
I am new to this forum and somewhat new to "educated" shooting. I am an experienced hunter (upland birds mostly) and like to think of myself as a safe gun-handler.
I bought a S&W 669 a couple of years ago, and since have educated myself a little more. I realize it should have been the other way, but live and learn. About a year ago I took a concealed weapons permit/handgun safety course.
I truly believe if someone is going to own a weapon, they should be accurate, and especially, safe with the gun. So along that train of thought I am trying to shoot more. I am shooting to the right.
I notice that the grip feels a little large, front-to-back, for my hand. I suspect that has some effect on my shooting. I also HIGHLY suspect I need a lot more practice.
From what I have learned recently, it seems that the back of the grip may be replaceable. Is that true? And if so, can someone steer me in the direction of where to get something? Or are they unavailable because of the age of the gun?

nushooter, welcome from North Carolina. Lots of experienced shooters here and I'm sure one of them will help you with your accuracy.

Welcome from Texas nushooter. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Looking in the SC S&W 3rd edition, it does not mention the changable backstrap for the 669. It was a smaller version of the 659. I know that the 4506 (45 ACP) had two different grip configurations but they were not interchangable. Not sure if the 669 has the same. Now the new M&P self loading pistols do have the feature of changable backstraps.

Thanks all for the kind greetings. I am considering going to a gun shop to see if there is something that fits me better. May be see if I could trade mine toward something.
I probably should just spend some time this summer practicing. I have no indoor range nearby. And of course I do realize the sights could be adjusted for me.

Just a quick update. I ended up trading my 669 for a new SD9. I've had it for 2-3 weeks. I took it out and put about 150 rounds through. At first I was shooting from about 10 yds. Shooting to the left.
I didn't think too much of it since I haven't shot a lot and it was a new pistol. After the first 50 or so, I look the gun over and I can see that the rear sight set-screw is loose so the sight is off to the left. I push it over to the center and try again. That works better!!
I come home and tighten the screw. I haven't been back out, but feel encouraged from what I did shoot. I'll get some more ammo and try again soon.
The shop I went to treated me pretty well on my trade, so I have a few $$ left. When I was leaving, I noticed out of the corner of my eye what I believe was a few M&P 15-22's in the camo finish. I've been doing a little research here, and am very interested.....
I'm heading over to the M&P section now.
