Been searching for two months for an OWB holster for my new Shield. Haven't found anything I can afford. So, I made my own. Fits the gun, and my 1.5in belt quite well.

Chief, that is nice work ! I was especially drawn to your stitching work; which I believe to be by hand ?

I actually prefer the look of hand work, although I have access to a Cobra 4-P any time I wish.
Judging from the "boning work" you either have a "blue gun", or used your shield...... Professional looking !

Work of that caliber deserves a series of procedure pictures we would like to see. Did you happen to take any step by steps ?

Very nice job! Like GerSan said, that ain't your first rodeo! Does it keep the grip tucked in nice and tight?

L8R,
Matt

I did tweak the position of the gun, in the holster, so the grip would be a smidge closer to the body. Depends on exactly where I put the holster on the belt. At 3 o'clock there is some space between me and the grip. Might print a little. At 4 o'clock the grip is right up against my side. Totally disappears under a T-shirt.

Yes, the stitching is done by hand. Meaning two harness needles and waxed nylon thread. The pro leather people tell me that I got the stitch line a bit too close to the edge of the leather. Still, I think it looks pretty good.
I used the Shield, wrapped in plastic wrap, to do the fitting/boning. The actual boning was done with a smooth plastic shaped thing that I had lying around. Don't know how else to describe that. Worked well around the trigger guard. Was a bit too large for the detail around the slide. I need to find something smaller to do finer detail stuff. For the front sight channel, I used a plastic tube from a Bic pen.
I didn't record the process, other than the result. I pretty much followed the ideas that I found in various YouTube vids. Not any one in particular, but several different ones. Thanks for the kind words.

Chief, "proper" stitch width is the thickness of the layer back from the edge. I'm improper too, as I think it looks better a little closer to the edge. I also burnish the edge before stitching so it all stays the perfect distance from the edge though.

Nice work & thanks for sharing!
