New K31

Any K31 owners out their. I won this one on Gunbroker last week, its scheduled to arrive on Monday. This is not my first, I had a couple back in the day when they first started being imported into the country which I foolishly sold several years back.

I recently got the bug again and have been looking for one in decent condition for the last several months. Knowing I would be buying one I stocked up on 7.5 Swiss ammo prior to the rifle purchase.

The K31 is an outstanding rifle, beautifully made and very accurate. Shooting one is pure joy. Show yours off if you have one, I'd like to see it.

I have 3, but no pictures. I bought one when they were about $100.00, and it was so good I bought two more. I gave one to a friend who is now overseas, so I still have it in the safe.

I have one from the old days when you had to form your own cases. You'd be amazed at well those things shoot Nosler's 168 grain match bullets.

I picked one up while ARs and AKs were skyrocketing in price. My K-31 is in beautiful condition, and was standing quietly on the consignment rack at the LGS. OTD $400 with 200 rounds of ammo. It's a beautiful rifle, accurate as the day is long, and with a surprisingly big recoil. I found aftermarket magazines for ~$40, so it's good to go.

They are great rifles, and the Swiss surplus ammo is match quality. Mine also likes Berger VLD bullets in handloads. Some have a tag under the buttplate with the soldier's name, town and date of birth. I was able to get in touch with the soldier who used mine; he is now a retired teacher, and was excited to hear about his rifle traveling so far.

about like a 308 in power and shoot same diameter bullets. get a scope mt and a good scope and you won't believe what they can do.

I reload so I'll be getting a set of dies for it soon, thanks for the heads up on the Berger VLD bullets, what powder are you using?

Always wanted one but waited to long, best part about them is the Swiss always used non-corrosive ammo unlike other military's at the time. Unlike my K98's, 91/30's and M38 mosin dark bore's, and having to clean them with windex after firing surplus ammo.

Looks good and soldiers tag is a extra.

I bought one around 2006. It was the soldier's name under the buttplate.

As a teenager, I lusted after the Swiss 1911 straightpulls, but ammo was extremely scarce and at the time, I was limited to a Lee Loader.

What I liked about the K-31 is that it gave me a reasonable alternative to .308 without having to invest big money in a Springfield Socom or AR 10. There's always the question from the para-military rifle crowd, "What's your battle rifle?" I guess 7.62 x 39 long guns need not apply, so I simply answer, "Swiss K-31." Most of the tactical fellers have no idea what I'm talking about, but the students of military firearms shake their heads knowingly, and offer their respective compliments on a sound choice.

I have one with a no drill scope mount. Scary accurate even in my hands.

Had one, and fitted the no drilling scope mount. It wasn't very accurate. Sold it, and recently got another, with the Swiss detachable adjustable peep rear sight and detachable front sight to match. It's a tack driver. I shoot Sierra 165 gr Match Kings in it and it shoots better than I can hold it off a bench. Wonderful rifle. It also has the previous owner's name, address and unit under the buttplate. No pix....yet.

I also have one of the G11 and G96/11 (pistol grip stock as a separate piece, glued in), converted to a 308 Win sporter. I've shot it a lot; great rifle and very accurate. I fitted a Lyman 48 to it after finding a higher front sight. Initially, it wasn't very accurate. I slugged the barrel and found it was .311" instead of .308". I didn't believe this and slugged it again: same reading. I shoot .311" jacketed bullets in it. WARNING: SLUG YOUR BARREL AND BE SURE IT'S .311" BEFORE YOU TRY THIS. Most barrels are .308". Before I got a match rifle, I shot this one over the National Match Course, out to 600 yards, a couple of times, using 150 gr bullets at 200 and 300 yds, and 180 gr at 600. Shot Sharpshooter scores; not bad for a 75 year old rifle, considerably messed with, and a not-very-good shooter behind it. Later I've found that the 180s shoot a lot more acurately than the 150s. I've had it a lot longer than my K 31 and have thus shot it a lot more. Pictures are of the 96/11. It's one of my favorite rifles.

I've been using IMR 3031 or IMR 4350; there are a lot of loads on the Swiss Rifles forums. I recommend the Swiss Products clamp-on scope mount btw; I went crazy and mounted an S & B scope on mine, the rifle deserves it and my old eyes need it!
