I picked up my new Compact 2.0 9MM today. I'm in California so it's been in DROS prison for 10 days. I'm 72, into firearms since 10 yrs old. I'm pretty familiar with the platform given I bought a Shield when they first came out. The Shield is a great pistol. Back to the Compact while looking thru the box and the goodies that come in it I came across two slip-on mag extensions(they look like X grip). The mags that came with it won't work with them....they won't latch so I'm assuming those are meant to be used if you're using mags for a full size 2.0 in your Compact, right? Also while browsing the owners manual it shows pulling the backstrap/palm swell off as part of the field strip disassembly. I can't tell for sure if that needs to be done to get the slide off or if that's about getting access to the backstrap takedown tool to use to push down the little lever in the magwell. Does the backstrap/palmswell need to come off to field strip the Compact or not?

You're correct. The 2 sleeves are for using full size (17 round, in our case still 10 round) mags.

You don't need to remove the backstrap in order to field strip. You can use just about anything to flip the lever down. Some folks can even stick a fingernail in there (I don't). The takedown tool is in there pretty tight so it may take quite a bit of force to twist it until the the tab on the tool aligns with the notch before you can yank it out.

After a range trip, I use cotton swabs to clear out debris and residue in the channels under the slide so I use one of them to drop the lever.

You can also pull the trigger but having the mag safety makes it a bit more complicated since you can't release the sear with the mag out. :(

Congrats on your purchase! Ten days feels like an eternity.

Thanks…..just wanted to get that stuff clear before i field strip, clean, and lube it. Gonna try to make it to the local indoor range Thursday morning. Thanks again
