New M&P 9

Ten days, I thought our 72 hours was bad. Congrates on the new gun.

It's new and you had to clean and lube it?

New guns are sometimes packed with grease because the manufacturer does not know how long the gun will sit on a shelf somewhere before it gets sold. Its ALWAYS a good idea to clean & lube a new gun.

Congrats on your new 9mm. My first m&p was a f/s 9mm (I'm getting misty eyed) :) Enjoy it!!

Butch up man...keep yer wits about you

The stuff inside many firearms is not a lube so cleaning the gunk out and re-lubing is a good idea because some may be bone dry. I also clean out the magazines as well, especially S&W mags. Every brand new S&W mag that comes with the firearms or in individual packages always has some sort of film on/in it and my rags always come out black. You can't see it, but it's definitely there.

Yep it is a good idea. Otherwise you don't know what condition it may be in. I opened up a new Springfield M1A and found rust.

I had no idea! I fired mine for the first time this weekend. I shot 100 rounds and just the second bullet got stuck but other than that, it fired flawlessly.

Congrats on the new M&P 9mm. Just picked my first one up last week, and I love it. Gona try it out and see how I do in some IDPA matches.

Sorry to ask Thunderhawk88...

Picked up a new M&P 9 this morning. It took 5 weeks to come in from ordering, then the "10 day cooling off period". But now it's here, cleaned and oiled, and ready to go.

Did it come with "Reduced Capacity" 10 round magazines?

To answer your question, it depends on how much you want to spend, Remington and Winchester both make an inexpensive cleaning kit that you can get at wally world or dicks for $20. Otis makes a very nice small size kit that uses a cable instead of a rod so the entire kit can go in a range bag for $60. There are also nice wooden box kits in the 60-90 range. I use a cheep tooth brush and qtips from the dollar store and a bore snake to clean mine. The next question is what to lube with. I personally like Frog Lube. It is a cleaner, lube and protectant all in one. It is vegetable based food quality cleaner that is also environmentally friendly. If you want to go with more traditional stuff, Hoppes and CLP make good products. I am sure you will get all kinds of cleaning recommendations on here.
