Hello all, I am here as a new S&W convert, I still love my Springfield's but I tried a Shield a couple of weeks ago and I was hooked. I dumped my LC9 real fast for the Shield. I liked it so much I just had to get another Smith so I bought it a big brother today. I love everything about it except its 8.5# trigger. My Shield is just under 7# but smooth so I can live with it since its a CCW but this FS is stiff, not gritty feeling at all but 8.5# stiff. I ordered an Apex sear for it to see if it helps. My XDm 9mm is 4# with a trigger kit and I like that for the range, I hope the sear does the trick for me. I hear it will get me around 4.5#.

Thanks for letting me in, there is a lot of good info here and I am really enjoying this site.

The apex sear should definitely get you under 6# and as it breaks in you'll likely end up in the 5-5.5 range. It will smooth out the trigger pull and the reset as well...at least that has been my experience. Enjoy and be safe!

You can take care of some if not all of the grittiness by polishing the trigger bar where it comes in contact with the little silver button. I started with a dab of fine abrasive & finished with a pencil eraser. DON'T take off too much material. Just make it smooth & stop. I ran my thumbnail over the surface to tell when it was smooth enough.

My full size M&P40 which I bought used & my M&P40C which I bought new both measure at a little less than 6.5 lbs & all the grittiness is gone. I haven't had them measured since I've put well over 500 rounds through each although the full size was well broken in when I bought it because it came out of police service.

I almost sold my MP .40 because of the trigger, but it gets better with use, dry fire it a few times, and its funny my MP .45 FS has a great trigger from day one, go figure.

Congratulations on your new pair of M&Ps. I shot another 100 rounds with my 9MM Shield this afternoon and the trigger just gets better with every use. It's my new warm weather carry in a DM Bullard Bodyguard OWB holster.
