So I figured I'd stop by here and join the club haha. Ive been a die hard XD fan as long as I could remember. However, being a lefty I always wanted a gun with ambidextrous controls. I always liked the h&k's, but the price was a bit too high.

So once I found that the m&p had it, I wanted one.

I ended up finding a guy locally that had just what I was looking for. Fullsize 40 s&w. He had already had it stippled as well which I wasn't thrilled about at first.

Best part, he was willing to do an even trade for my xd40 sub compact.

Well we met up and I saw the gun and really didn't mind how the stippling looked, plus it felt great in my hand.

I took it home, and with any new gun I shot it...perfection. This is the gun I always should have had haha.

I did some quick drills and found everything was totally natural. No lining up sights. Just point, fire, and hit. Something I could never do with my xd. Maybe because it is a larger frame, but recoil was almost non existent and it felt more like a 9mm.

Oddly enough, the only thing I don't like, was the one thing I got it for lol. The darn slide release is almost impossible to drop with my left hand. Fortunately, I found out about the mag slam trick, so I can deal with that.

I could probably polish it a bit like I did with my super redhawk trigger, but I really don't like doing anything custom to my carry gun.

Also the trigger isnt great but that seems to be everyone's complaint. How are their revolver triggers so nice but not these? It's not horrible tho, and not something I put at the top of my list of getting.

It also fits like a glove in my comp tac minotaur made for my xd.

I almost feel like the guy I traded with really got the short end of the stick.

Congratulations on your successful trade. Enjoy that new to you M&P.

Welcome from Las Vegas and congratulations on acquiring a great gun.

That ambidextrous slide stop/lock is supposed to be just that. Power stroking is the accepted way to release the slide. However, I own a 9mmFS and after shooting about 1500 rounds, I can use the slide lock as a release with great ease.

The M&P slide "lock" is difficult to use as a slide release, but by polishing and smoothing the lever and slot in the slide, it will be easier to use as a slide release. There are a lot of threads and information on improving the trigger action.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm also a lefty, and I bought a M&P 9L, because of the ambidextrous controls, like you. It is nearing the 1000 round mark and the slide lock does soften up nicely.

I highly recommend and apex trigger upgrade. It makes it a pleasure to shoot.

Welcome to the world of M&P reliability, ease of operation, accuracy & ergonomics. I feel you're preaching to the choir here, lol.

Ya I have looked at the Apex stuff but they have a ton of trigger parts. What do I actually need ?

Just the DCAEK is needed to clean up the trigger and drop the pull force. If going to be a range gun the comp kit lowers the force further if you want. The rest is candy.

I installed the DCAEK in my 40c after one day at the range, factory trigger is terrible! I go Sunday to see how it is but dry firing it is night and day already.

Trigger does get better with use. As far as that "auto forward" on mag insertion...only had an issue with it once. During a competition, slide went forward but didn't grab a round. I blame the mag only being loaded to 10, not 17 but I still didn't like hearing that "click".

Here are a couple pics. It came stippled, I did the color fill.

Welcome to the club, I also am a pretty new M&P FS owner. All I can say is WOW what a gun.

Another new guy here to the M&P, picked up a Pro for myself and a FS for the wife, we both shot Sigs for a while and the trigger is tough to get used to, I put the USB in her gun and she likes it much better, still prefers her sig but she is left handed and it doesn't work well :)

Will be putting the USB in my pro also, just cant get over the grit even though most say it gets better with time.

Took mine to the local USPSA match last weekend and had a blast with it though!!!

I am really interested in those matches, just don't think I can afford the ammo for them haha. I have 1k 9mm rounds and 1k 40 rounds I loaded and just looking at more bullets I (well my wife lol) can't seem to justify the cost being as broke as we are now. hell the only reason I even got this gun was due to the fact it was an even trade.

The DCAEK is my best recommendation; that, and a set of Trijicon night sights. I run a G-Code holster on a HSGI war belt.

Go to the IDPA website and find a club/match close to you. You can shoot the first match without joining and the equipment you have will be fine for Standard Service Pistol. Typical round count is around 100 to 150. Try it and see how you like it and then if you like it, join and have fun. Leave all the modifications for a future date.
