Right where I need to be.
Just thought I'd pass this on. I have no stake in this discussion, just found it interesting. Seems there are several folks over on The Highroad that claim S&W is coming out with a new production trigger for the M&P line. New trigger is suppose to offer a "cleaner, crisper trigger with shorter reset". See post # 31.

That's interesting, but I don't really see anything wrong with the current trigger for a combat pistol. For pure competition use, an upgrade would be nice.

Great! I have only had my pistol for 2 weeks. They are charging for the "upgrade". Also it will only be for pistols with the thumb safety (which mine doesn't have).

You need to get youself an Apex Tactical DCAEK for yours. That will drastically improve your trigger. Also if I remember correctly, I believe I read some where it will also work on pistols that have the plug in the frame for a thumb safety, but not on guns without the plugged notch.

im thinking it's the Apex FSS. I believe Randy had meetings with S&W @ SHOT this year. This was on the APEX FB page, which also leads me to believe that it's the FSS.

I hope so, the FSS is spectacular and I have been saying for years that S&W needs to get together with Apex Tactical to make their trigger systems stock. Plus it would save me from always having to buy one when I get a new M&P!

I am planning on buying a M&P9C in the next few weeks, having second thoughts now.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding all of it correctly... I understand that current ones (with the thumb safety) can be retrofitted. But will all future M&P's (with and without the thumb safety) will have the new trigger?

if you read that other thread, the trigger is going to LEO first. I'm thinking it'll be a different model and not a standard FSS trigger in all M&P's.

To sum this up... if there is a new trigger and if it is anything like the FSS kit from APEX, then your M&P will need to have the thumb safety. That makes perfect sense to me, since I have installed the FSS kit on one of my M&P's, the 40fs, I have decided to not CCW it. Reason being is the original trigger design is what allows us to safely carry our M&P's without a thumb safety, the long trigger travel, the heavy trigger release is all we have from a discharge. That is the way I see the original design. If S&W is saying the new trigger only works with the thumb safety, I believe this to be the reason. The FSS trigger has almost no take up and it goes bang...

I have APEX kits in my other 3 M&P's, living in Mass, our guns come with a 10lb pull, we have to modify our triggers. I installed the DCAEK kits in them, it gave me around a 6-7lb pull with no gritty feel. But I will say, in spite of installing the APEX kits, my M&P's still shot just as accurately and were just as much fun stock from the factory. Had I not read about the APEX trigger kits, I would have been just as happy with what I purchased from the factory.

Confirmed by S&W staffer at LGS open house

S&w m&p to have new trigger!!!!!!! - THR

I talked with the S&W rep at an LGS open house this afternoon and showed him the quoted email. He confirmed the information but didn't volunteer any additional details. He said to expect the mods by midsummer.

G&R Tactical has already received some of the new M&P's with the new trigger design. He stated that they did not feel much different than the original design. There is a thread or two on m4carbine.net about it.

Saw that, but interpreted "cleaner and has a better reset" as being consistent with what Dix said in his email (quoted on THR). In any case, I look forward to hearing more details on exactly what G&R are receiving from S&W once they have had a chance to inspect the hardware internally, which they haven't yet. Strictly speaking what I heard today was that the new hardware is not in production at all yet, but since it's being done without introducing new SKUs there's no telling what's actually happening until someone takes a unit with a different-feeling trigger and cracks it open.

Running changes like this drive me nuts. How will we know when the current stock is used up and the new ones are coming out?

Personally, I don't believe it really matters. It's not like it's going to change the gun all that much. Especially when it comes down to the majority of shooters, being novice at best..

I would be happy if S&W would just produce what they offer in quantities dealers can order. As it is now I have had M&P Pro 9mm pistols on order for a year from three different distributors with none being available.

Heading up to S&W retail store right now, I'll check the out of state showcase for ya... :)

Thanks but I am looking for some wholesale from distributors.

Yeeeeeeeup, I thought that was you. We already found you like 5 guns in the past. Why do you keep posting that stuff up when the majoirty here are retail customers. Makes no sense ... and if your dealers aren't getting them... you need a different distributor..
