New M&P45 Owner

I purchased my M&P .45 4.5in with thumb safety last night. I am so freaking excited lol. I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning. I have owned several different glocks and one other S&W .40. I can't wait to shoot it! I really liked my glocks but I didn't like not having a safety on the glock. I also take my CCDW course first week of April! Suspense is eating me alive lol

I know it's a S & W forum, but here's a product that allows oneself to install a cross bolt type safety on any Glock, sells for about $55 to $60.

SIDERLOCK | The Additional Safety for Glock pistols

Speaking of safeties, what's everyone's preference as far as a M&P45 with no external safety on the side of the frame? If holstered and the trigger is completely enclosed do you carry with one in the chamber or not is what I'm asking? I've never had a pistol before this one that didn't have an external type safety. Thanks for your responses ahead of time.

No manual safety. Always carried in Condition Zero (chamber loaded with full magazine) in a holster that covers the trigger.

Always be alert to the possibility of a shirt tail or other stray material getting into the trigger guard during holstering/re-holstering. Rule 3: Keep finger out of the trigger guard until your sights are on the target.

With good habits you will really do well with this gun. They are good.

I'm comfortable with the M&P platform without the external safety and always carry with a chambered round. Extra care is always recommended when holstering. Like Murdock said, good habits...

i just purchased the 45c....love it!mine has no external safety...i carry mine full mag.and one in the chamber

I've had one since 2009, no safety. I switched from a Glock 21. I've had two Glock 21s, both were reliable and accurate, but the M&P is easier for me to conceal. It is my daily carry piece. It has digested over 7K rounds without a major hicup. I sent it back to the factory at around 6K for inspection and to have the recoil spring replaced. Got it back in a week. Most manufactures, including Glock now recommend replacing the recoil spring every 4-5K rounds anyway. The trigger on mine is factory and has never been messed with. Its probably in the 6.5 lb range and was never as gritty as some described. Accuracy is better than I am. If I have only one gripe, it is that the factory sights are dovetailed in so tight that I have to take it to a gunsmith to switch out, and its going to get a set of Heinie Straight 8s in the next week or two.

They are GREAT guns IMO. I have the FS45, like it a lot. Very controllable and accurate, seems to like whatever ammo I run through it. Welcome to the forum!

Had a bbq at the youngest son's home in the country, didn't have a lot of time before dark but did run another box of .45 Blazer ammo through it. Flawless, lovin' the new gun!

I picked my new .45 m&p the other day...haven't gotten to go shoot yet but hopefully I can this weekend. I already bought 500 rounds to blow through lol. grabbed an AR while up at the gun shop as well...i got the bug
