I've been carrying Glocks (concealed) for many years. Most of my concealed carry was with a G-27 in a High Noon IWB holster. I always felt a little uneasy about having an unwanted discharge with the Glocks. My Dad has alway been a S&W guy. He mostly carries a Model 49 in a Galco ankle glove. The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of carrying a Smith. A couple of months ago, I picked up a 438 and have been carrying it in a Desantis Nemisis pocket holster. I have no uneasy feelings about the safety of the 438. It's loaded with Hornady Critical Defense rounds and I carry an extra 5 rounds in a Bianchi speed strip. It's amazing how much lighter the 438 is compared to Dad's 49. Compared to the Glock 27 (40 caliber), I don't feel a bit undergunned. I like the fact that I don't have to dress around carrying the Glock...I always had to wear shirts with the tail out. Now, I can carry the 438 in my pocket and it just disappears. My wife gave me my Christmas present early...a Lasermax for the J-frame. I have been using a Lasermax on my Glock G-27 and have always been impressed with how good it works. The one for the J-frame is even brighter. I'm very pleased...Santa was good! Recently, I ordered the plug for the 438 so I could eliminate the internal lock. I've been lazy and haven't installed it yet. When I get it installed, the 438 will be perfect. The only thing I've got to do now is to get as accurate with the 438 in DA mode as I am with the Glock.

This wasn't my first Smith. I've had a M&P 15T for a long time. It's a great version of the AR-15.

Welcome from Texas Ken. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

FWIW, I carry a Glock model 32, 357 Sig as my primary off duty sidearm and am very satisfied with it. I think I appreciate the higher mag capacity more than the average person in my situation.

Glad you enjoy the 438. As long as you are satisfied, that is all that matters.
