Hello everyone.

I Just signed up on this forum last night. I'm a former PO whom retired and moved to the south. I use to own 2 S&W as service weapons. (38 & 9), I own a Glock 42 .380 with extended + mags, (not a fan), to carry in my shorts, I'm getting older, and I also want my wife to be able to handle a hand gun for self defense, so I just ordered a Shield EZ 9 on the recommendation of my gunsmith. I'm looking to possibly add red optics to the EZ 9 but I've been an Oldschool iron site person for the past 44 years, (learning on long guns then transitioning to pistols), so I'm not sure if red dot optics will be for me, but looking in to the possibly of making this transition, for the reasons I listed above.

Any comments and all advice appreciated.

Thanks Y'all!

Welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina.

I was a long time revolver shooter and transitioned to pistols.

Recently, I viewed the YouTube "You Don't Need a Red Dot" video by Ken Hackathorn from Wilson Combat. For some folks a red dot is a worthwhile investment and for many it is not. I fit in the latter category.

It is a 23m video with a lot of info that can save you money if you do decide on a red dot.

Welcome from CT ! Glock 42 is my Florida gun in kydex belt clip or Kramer pocket holster. Pearce plus1 base plates. Not a big Glock fan either but it's so compact and reliable.

No help with the red dot sight (never shot with one) but welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum from the Carolina Upstate. I left Ohio because of February.
I cannot comment on the red dots. I am still using iron sights. I think red dots make pistols look ugly. Same reason I do not like Glocks and warthogs.

Hello folks, I'm a long time lurker of this S&W Forum.
Figured I might as well join, since I enjoy the banter among the members and get a lot of information from you guys.

Welcome from Vermont. This place is contagious so be warned. I to used iron sights for duty and 10's of thousands of rounds PPC. You could transition to a red dot easily I believe. I finally put one on my Benelli as I just couldn't wing shoot the shotgun the "proper" way because of so much "front sight, front sight, front sight" over the years. It has helped, but on a rifle or handgun it should be easy. Not a big deal if you focus on the dot, but you don't have to. Work on keeping both eyes open instead.
