I have been reading post on this forum because I have taken an interest in a Model 41 for target shooting. I found the MSRP of $1,288 but was wondering what the real price people were paying at local gun stores. Has anyone bought one recently and would you like to pass on what you paid?

I have seen a post of between $250 to $280 for a new model 22A with an MSRP of $324. Is the model 41 that much better than the model A22?

I saw a M41 (new) at a VA gun show last month for just under $1000. Used, they seem to be going for $750-900, plus tax, shipping, etc., depending on where you buy it.

$280 is on the high end for a 22A- at the same gun show, various dealers had them for $199-250. There are several places on the internet (one was posted in this forum a few weeks ago) that quoted $199. Keep in mind, this is the standard 22A, not the stainless, and with reg sites, not the hi-viz. Price of a stainless, with the sights, was $284 at the same show last month.

Two weeks ago I took delivery of a new Model 41 (built 3/10/2010 in Houlton, ME) ordered through BassPro who in turn ordered it from their distributor. Price was $959.95 excluding sales tax. An additional 10% was taken off when I took out a BassPro credit card for the purchase. Price to me was $869. The BassPro people were wonderful to deal with - class acts.

I think the best idea is to buy new as used ones seem to be only 150.00 or so less than new price. My dealer has a used one for 850.00 as I remember. It was made in the 70's, are the older ones more desirable than the new ones?

I feel if you bought an older A series gun, with cocking indicator, you would always get your money back on the gun when you sold it.
Buying a brand new one, and sell it a year or so later, I don't think you would be breaking even. I prefer the early guns, to me they will always be collectible. Once the cocking indicator, muzzle break, false cap, and EFS style model 41 are long gone from being MFG, I feel they will continue to hold there price against the newer manufactured model 41s.

I just purchased a M41 that is new in the box built on Jul 2009 for $850that has walnut grips. The newer ones come drilled and tapped for scopes which the older ones are not. Having a gunsmith drill and tap an older model will cost money and probably decrease the collectors value.

If you want to play with a .22 for plinking, the 22A will serve you well. It is not a target gun.
The Model 41 is indeed in a target gun class. Very few can shoot it to its maximum potential of accuracy.
