New Model 69 Internal Differences

I'm a long-time, S&W revolver guy. However, I have never liked the MIM triggers and hammers being put on all the newer models. I have been buying the old hammer-forged steel triggers off of eBay, Numrich, etc. So far, I have successfully replaced the triggers on every model I own except for the recently purchased, new 2.75 inch barrel Model 69 in .44 magnum. The trigger stud pin is a larger diameter than the other older models. I didn't realize this until I had disassembled the Model 69, refitting the hand to the hammer forged trigger and resetting the hand torsion spring. When I started putting the gun back together is when I realized, "this ain't gonna fit!"

S&W has also changed up the way the hand torsion spring fits inside the trigger and how it's set. Bottom line, I'm having trouble getting it all put back together? Help!



Two questions:

1) Should I send everything back to S&W and have them put back together?
2) Ask S&W to install a trigger stud pin the diameter of the old hammer-forged triggers? Is the trigger stud a threaded pin or pressed into the frame.

It has been a long, long time since I dealt with S&W about performing any "custom" work. That being said, just give them a call and ask. My guess would be that they will not do it as you also have to deal with the external lock situation and you would have to do quite a bit of modifying on a forged hammer to get it to function. Keep us informed.

Just get a solid carbide reamer of the correct size (.002 or.003 over pin size) and ream the hole in the trigger. Super easy. The reamer should be $20 or $30.
