new or used .357?

True

..... Something that most people who know guns know is that most people who buy magnums shoot very few magnum rounds through them. Most people will shoot 38 Special through their magnums in order to keep them working longer. They believe that the magnum loads will wear out the gun that much faster. For the L & N frames this belief could easily work in your favor.

You right. For target I shoot .38 Special strength soft lead bullets and low end to medium .357s. When I feel like "blowing your head clean off" ala Clint Eastwood, I'll shoot some really hot reloads. But like I said in the other post, it HURTS so I don't shoot that many. I also find that 'standard' .357 mag ammo that you buy in stores ain't that powerful. You can buy Buffalo Bores or some other hot self defense/hunting rounds but you'll go broke if you shoot a lot of those at the range.

For me I reload and full house mag. loads will not be reloaded for range shooting. I think most of us just load down a 357 case to 38 special +p and get the best of both worlds. Only wore out revolvers I see were very old 38sw types. Metal has came a long way and S&W or Rugers will hold up fine. Plus try to buy from some place with a wty. My last 686 had a 60 day bring back wty.

Me too. I've seen K-frame mags at local shows with a lot of mileage on them. 4" 13's mostly. Also a 4" 66 that looked like it has been tossed around in a cement mixer and was really loose. $600! Please...

I don't think you can beat the 581 -- if you can find one. Fixed sights, smooth as glass.

I own a bunch of revolvers. More than half are used. Some were just barely broken-in.

DITTO!!!!!!!!!

Some are a little rough but I bought them as part of my collection and they were hard to find but, for all intents and purposes, every S&W .38/.357 that I own I would count on to defend my life with no thoughts at all about the fact that someone other than myself used it.
