Looking for some more expert opinions than me! My local Cabelas has a SW M&P 9 used for $100 less than new. It looks like it has hardly been used. SW says it left the factory in Oct. 2009. Am I better off getting a new M & P 9 or the used one? The main difference to me is time. The used one is there. I have to order the new one. The $100 I can save up if you think that is the better way to go.

I would buy the used one and not have second thoughts. A lot of people buy handguns on impulse and later sell them without too much use. I would especially do this if it has all the same goodies as a new one (box, manual, magazines, backstraps, etc.).

yes it has the box and everything that came with originally. I don't want to be cheap if spending another $100 brings some benefit. I have no problem buying used if the gun is ok. Cabelas is giving me a 30 day warranty and I am hoping SW will stand by their product if defects appear after that time. Basically if you are buying a weapon for defense I would trash it without regret if its not up to snuff - new or used.
If the SW M&P 9 is as good as they say I will be a happy new owner.

I bought my full sized M&P .40 used from my LGS and have no regrets. The shop owner, who is a personal friend of mine so I know he wasn't feeding me a line of BS, told me the original owner ordered the gun with the idea that he would use it for concealed carry. Less than three weeks after he got it he brought it back to trade for a compact model because the full sized .40 was too big for him to carry concealed. For all intents and purposes the gun was brand new. In fact the original owner had not registered the purchase with S&W yet (the registration card was still in the case with all the other papers and accessories) so I registered it with S&W and cashed in on the $50 rebate they were offering on the purchase of any new M&P firearms. So in essence I got a new gun and saved almost $200.

If it has everything a new one comes with ( box, mags, backstraps) get the used one. Use the $100 for more ammo and shoot,shoot,shoot.

Bought my 40c used at a gun show with all the fixin's. At the time, S&W was still offering $50 rebate or two mags. I sent in the rebate along with receipts, etc., and got the $50 on a used gun.

For several years, I purchased NIB only. I felt that I had to know the history of the gun's treatment. However, the last few years I have made several used gun purchases. I feel that I have always gotten good value buying used. I suppose if you buy used long enough, you might get burned. It just has not happened to me yet. I will stess the yet part, though.

Bought the used gun today. Cleaned it. Looked hardly used. Took it for a test drive and oh my goodness gracious is this a sweet one. The trigger is great. The sights were dead on. Now I am not the greatest shooter but they were almost all in the black, not only black but in the center at 8 to 10 yrds. hand held.
