(New pics added) Come on in if your remember Cousin Bruce on WABC

Yes, I remember Ron Lundy, Cousin Brucie, Herb Oscar Anderson and the others from WABC 77. The Good Old Days. A fun station to listen to, there was a bit of clowning around, much of which was fairly sophisticated. I remember listening to one afternoon in the Fall of 1964, the DJ introduced the song "Have I the Right" by the Homeycombs by saying:
"And now-'Have I the Right"... by the John Birch Society!"

Yea buddy, the good old days....when you could tune in to a single radio station and have it play in the background and not be a major annoyance like today. Cousin Brucie was big in upstate NY where I was raised. First class act all the way.

I grew up in central Jersey listening to Brucie in the 60's, came to my high school and did a show once. You can still here him on Sundays (?) on Sirius.

Keep an eye out.... I found a few more Cousin Bruce momentos and a few other items.
I will place them in a new thread.

Great to hear from you guys about your memories of "early" rock and roll radio.

Cousin Brucie came to my high school in 1966 at Scotch Plains, N.J. and did a show for the girls side of the (parochial) school. I saw him leaving the building and waved a "hello" to him. I always istened to him on the radio at night before going to sleep.
Also saw Officer Joe Bolton and the Three Stoogies live in Asbury Park, N.J. at the Casino in the early 60's.

We listened to him and all the rest of the DJ's on WABC when growing up in the 1960's on Long Island. Thanks for the Great memories!

I grew up on rock-n-roll stations in Cleveland, and I certainly remember the fast talking voice and sound of Cousin Brucie in NY. Great memories. Along with CKLW in Windsor, Ontario across from Detroit. Plus, while stationed in California listening to Wolfman Jack on XERB, broadcasting in Mexico.

Central Jersey escapee here. Listened to Cousin Brucie from the early 60's on....Allison Steele too.

Anyone remember the commercials for New York National speedway (IIRC?) Sunday...Sunday...Don Garlits....Don the Snake Prudhomme....

Also recall the Soupy Sales show out of I think Philly?

Zacharly the scary movie show...always operrating on his wife...jello for her guts.

Anyone ever listen to Jean Shepherd on WOR AM 710 evenings 1015 to 1100?? He talked about his time in the Signal Corps, being a kid in Indiana, etc. He also wrote a few books and did articles for Playboy...all basically these stories.

His story of wanting a Red Rider BB gun is "A Christmas Story".

FN in MT

Zacherly was on New York radio station WPLJ.

I remember listening to Zach regularly in the AM. Regards 18DAI.

Ah yes,The Shep - told stories about "the old man" simonizing his car on Sunday afternoon, (Motorist wise , Simonize) then sitting in the car to smoke a cigar that Mrs. Shepherd refused to allow him to smoke in the house. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

This is a real signature of Cousin Bruce.
It's cut off at the top, but I wrote the date: 12/29/61.
These obviously came out each week, but I can't remember where you got one.

WMCA, "The Good Guys"

I can remember my parents listening to it when I was a child. I had XM radio for a short while several years ago. They had a channel that would play old broadcasts from WMCA, it was kinda cool.

But it does not seem long ago Cousin Brucie was on WCBS FM, 101.1 in NY. Then he did tv ads for Pergament (?) and a few other things that I thought of but cant think of now.

Its Eaaaaaaaseyyyyy.... :)

The WMCA transmitter building and antennas are still in the swap over in NJ....

Another NY sound that sticks is my head is WWRL. My father was a big Jackie Wilson fan and also listened to a lot of R&B and I remember all the DJs on this station used a lot of reverb on their voice overs and even the live commercials.
