Ah yes,The Shep - told stories about "the old man" simonizing his car on Sunday afternoon, (Motorist wise , Simonize) then sitting in the car to smoke a cigar that Mrs. Shepherd refused to allow him to smoke in the house. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

It's cut off at the top, but I wrote the date: 12/29/61.

I can remember my parents listening to it when I was a child. I had XM radio for a short while several years ago. They had a channel that would play old broadcasts from WMCA, it was kinda cool.
But it does not seem long ago Cousin Brucie was on WCBS FM, 101.1 in NY. Then he did tv ads for Pergament (?) and a few other things that I thought of but cant think of now.
Its Eaaaaaaaseyyyyy....
The WMCA transmitter building and antennas are still in the swap over in NJ....
Another NY sound that sticks is my head is WWRL. My father was a big Jackie Wilson fan and also listened to a lot of R&B and I remember all the DJs on this station used a lot of reverb on their voice overs and even the live commercials.

I remember surreptitiously listening to Cousin Brucie, long after my bedtime, by the expedient of hanging a transistor radio by the loop on its leather carrying case on the rear of my bedframe, and running an earbud wire thru the bedclothes and under my pillow case, permitting listening to the current Top 40 on WABC's 50,000 watt nighttime clear channel carrier. Also, similarly, WLS from Chicago, and CKLW, from Windsor, Ontario, whose then program director, Rosalie Trumbull, hit-maker in the midwest, was memorialized by Bob Seger in an early regional hit record titled Rosalie, the refrain of which was "Rosalie --- she's got the tower, she's got the power ..." Also listened to another 50KW clear channel station from New Orleans, featuring mostly contemporary country --- call sign escapes me --- any help?

Ah yes, fond memories of listeing to "Shep" on WOR. Came on at 10PM, as a 12 year old I had quite a struggle with the Sandman to stay awake to listen to him. His "A Christmas Story" was originally entitled "Duel in the Snow, or, Red Ryder nails the Cleveland Street Kid." He also did a Fourth of July story entitled "Ludlow Kissel and the Dago Bomb that struck back."

Cousin Brucie and Allison Steele, now that's a couple name I haven't heard of in years. Course Don Imus and Roberto Santana Banana when they used to "nuke" folks at the 6am show. You'd call in a name and he or she would get "nuked". Darn near had a stroke when someone called in my boss's name and he got "nuked". Couldn't keep a straight face when I had to attend the morning meeting that day. Course the boss was highly ticked off about that one. Thanks for the memories. Frank

I remember the 'Good Guys' on WABC - then we moved from Bayside, LI to Indianapolis - then to my folks birthplace in Birmingham. My late-50's huge red leather cased Emerson portable 6 transistor radio with it's 'Magic Wand' rotatable ferrite loop antenna, which had point to point wiring, transistors in sockets, and used two huge 9V batteries in parallel, had been joined by my homebrew two transistor regenerative receiver - then a Lafayette Radio tube set and a 100 ft long wire. Still interested in distant AM stations - WABC came in well at night in Birmingham - I also found XERF, 1570, just across the Rio Grande from Del Rio, TX - running 250kw - and carrying 'Da Wolfman... Wolfman Jack!'.
Being frugal, I would solder three D-cells, wrapped in tape and in series with three in the other side, making 9V at higher capacity than the two original batteries - and at a fraction of the cost - and everybody had D-cells. More Cousin Brucie for my lunch money! That radio was ruined when a storage building's roof leaked while I was in the USN... miss that radio. I had started listening to short wave radio by then - a long way from NYC & WABC 770 and WINS 1010 by then, anyway. Great memories - thanks for jogging the memories!
Now, did I already take my pills this AM... must still need my shower...

So why hasn't anynone mentioned the Happy Huggy Bear or Kemosabe club/card from HOA and Dan Ingrahm respectively.
I've also got some Muni Money laying around from a church dance that Scott Muni MC'd when he was with WABC.

I remember when Charlie Greer (Mrs Greers skinny boy, Charlie) was a jock at WAKR (Akron Ohio) and used to do sock hops in the gym at Simon Perkins Jr High.....gosh...I'm starting to feel old
