New revolvers without IL?

Just recieved an email reply from David Valenze. He simply said he would forward my email to the marketing department.
At least I know that someone read it.

Lucky Derby,

Do you mind sharing your email and the email address of the person at S&W. Perhaps I will send one in as well ... it certainly couldn't hurt at this point.

Model 58, anyone?

I always thought the 58 was/is the prettiest revolver ever made, i'd be in line to buy one if reintroduced with no lock. If it has a lock, not a chance!

The address I used was;
[email protected]

That is the customer service email from their website.

Interesting. I sent an email earlier this year to the President of S&W asking why all (well, most of them) the revolvers have the IL when their autos dont (it's on option on some M&Ps but there is none on their 1911's).

Never got a response - hopefully a new barage of emails and faxes will push them in the right direction if they are on the fence about this decision.

OK, here is the text of the email I sent:

To whom it may concern:

I have been a fan of S&W revolvers since I first shot my father's M19 when I was about ten years old. Over the years I have bought many new and used S&W revolvers, in every frame size except the newest one, the X frame. Over the past couple of years I have been in a position to increase the size of my firearms collection, mosstly by purchasing used S&W revolvers (approximately twenty). During this time frame I have also aquired a couple of older Colt revolvers and the odd rifle or shotgun, but my main interest is in S&W revolvers.

I purchased my last new S&W revolver several years back. I believe it was either 2001 or 2002 maybe. It is a fine firearm, a M296. this one was made before the internal lock was added to the design ofyour otherwise excellent revolvers. I have not, nor will I ever, purchase a revolver with this ugly, unneeded, and, in my opinion, downright dangerous feature. S&W currently manufactures several revolvers thatI would stand in line to purchase, if not for the lock. These include, but not limited to the M627 4", M21, M22 and several of the Nightguard series.

I applaud you on recent J frame offerings without the lock. I currently have all the J frames I need/desire that fit the catagory in which the current no lock offerings fit.

I am writing because I have heard a rumor that the lock will soon become optional. I would highly encourage this move and would love to be able to once again experience the pleasure of purchasing a new S&W revolver. I am sure you are aware that I am not the only customer to feel this way. At age 37, I don't feel I fit the catagory of "old fart" either.

Sincerly,

Raymond XXXXX

Good message!! Can you print a copy of it and FAX to:

S&W Senior Vice President...Leland Nichols at
Fax # 413-747-3317.

Emails are too easy to delete by customer service dept...fax creates a dedicated sheet of paper for Leland to review and show other S&W executives.

Now you've gone and done it! The AG of Mass will surely hear about this and force S&W to put a lock on all guns sold in our state.
