okay so im going to pick up a 15-22 and im wondering what do you all consider absolute have to get mods? im new and also im a casual shooter. thihnking about a scope but want to leave the sights on. and i was thinking about a trigger mod but i dont really know anything about that/what would make it better. any reccomendations will be appreciated

Most upgrades are personal preferance. Shoot about 500 rounds through it stock and then deside what you are interested in doing. Look at the pic thread to get an idea of what you would like yours to look like. Then ask a more specific question like I want a 1x33mm red dot.what are your recommendations? This is an easier question to answer.

But all will agree extra mags(speacially if you're in a state where you have to limit your capcity). And a few hondo rounds of ammo.

+1....definite must haves. +1 for evil too, all personal preferences, alot of 15-22 are made to replicate AR15s for training purposes.

if your looking long range plinking (upto 100yrds) id look into a 3x9 scope, i use one on a 10/22 and 100yards is stretching it @ 100 but great for 25-50.

Get the JP Trigger Spring Kit (Midwayusa link below but avail at other dealers) and follow the directions in Brett's video (up in the "stickies" section at the top of the 15-22 forum) for pulling out the fire control stuff. This spring kit made a major positive difference in the trigger.

Second item for me was the Hogue pistol grip because the factory grip was uncomfortable - finger notch in the wrong place for me.

After that, it's virtually anything you want to do (within the limits of your discretionary income), but evilimpshtr's comment about doing some shooting first before making any decisions on mods is a good one.

Definitely follow the mags and ammo suggestion. Most of it is (as stated) preference. I like switching up scope, vs. laser, vs iron sights just to have fun. The JP trigger mod is an ABSOLUTE must in my opinion. just did mine and love it. trigger is lighter and smoother. more crisp feel to it. Hogue grip is nice too, but not a necessity.

I agree the grip is not the best, but there are so many grip options don't just think you have to go hogue. I personally don't get the greatness of the hogue, and have found others I PERSONALLY like better. To me a grip is like shoes. Try them on before you buy.

I just got mine(MOE) and have had it out once. More mags, and I ordered a Walther red dot. Lotsa ammo is a given...

okay well ig ot it this morning and ive shot around 100 rounds through it. had a stove pipe and one where the pn sheared across the round. other than those two i love this rifle. probably dont want the hand grip as i prefer cradeling the rifle in my hand as opposed to holding a grip. im thinking about a trigger kit. but my dad (who was in the marines for several years) assures me he can take 4 pounds off the trigger. thinking ill leave it iron sights and maybe a red dot. question was you serious about 100 round drum and if so link?

There is a link to the trigger mod your dad is wanting to do on here... but for 10 bucks the j&p kit works way better... the grip that a few have mentioned is the hogue grip and it replaces the factory grip and has a lot better feel to it for 16 bucks that's most peoples first mod...

thanks for the help. and actually pricing some of this stuff. I dont really find a lot wrong with the trigger but for 10 bucks if itll make my gun better ill do it. so is it specifically for the 15-22 or is it just standard ar15?

It's standard AR but the 15-22 is made so it takes a lot of standard AR parts - including the trigger, hammer, and disconnector springs in the JP spring kit. After installing it in my 15-22 and feeling and seeing the results at the range, I have no desire to put the JP trigger assembly in mine. However, I'm sure others would go the extra distance.

Buy the springs and do the polishing if you decide later you want the rest order the trigger and hammer..problem solved

true. so ive fired around 700+ rounds throgh it now. had a field day at my friends house and no catastrophic failures. though after a certain point they did begin to stove pipe semi regulary. with how many and quickly i was firing though i cant complain. also i cleaned the bolt a little and it kinda stopped the problem


so question so i can narrow my search down a little. with sights and the like what can i get for around 50 bucks that will be worth my time? im trying to keep myself from spending a lot on this gun so i dont end up having an 800 dollar 22
