Just picked up a S&W 442. I got it for $360 plus a $50 off rebate, and I'm happy with the lightweight addition to my carry options. I learned this summer in the heat than pocket carry of a snubby would be good and my current 640-1 was too heavy for that.

Initial impressions are good fit and finish, smooth but heavy trigger pull - I have an Apex kit on order to lower the weight. I'll install that, paint the front sight orange, do a bunch of dry fires and get it to the range and ready to go. Maybe some Uncle Mikes boot grips too, as I like those on my 640-1, although the stock grips aren't bad.

I think you're going to be very pleased with that one after the Apex spring kit is installed and you get a bunch of rounds downrange. The trigger on mine is smooth as silk now. :)

Congrats! Looks good from the left side too! ;) Regards 18DAI

Yeah, the LGS had a pretty good sale on S&W snubbies a couple of months ago but they all had the lock, so when I found out about Buds having them (no-lock) for $369 and S&W $50 off, I figured it was time.

I was worried about the trigger, but it's really fine. Again, heavy but no grit or anything, so someone was paying attention when they put it together or I just got luck with the MIM parts.

Thanks guys,

Cheers,

I believe the rebate is for M&P revolvers only. That's what S&W told me last year when I inquired if it would apply to a 642/442. They said no.

I recently picked up a 442-1 as well, and I have the Apex kit installed. I'm pleased with it... reliable and smooth. A J-frame trigger will never feel like a K,L,N frame trigger though as we know.

I'm thinking I will just leave the factory grips. Really not bad and they are very compact, which matters a whole lot with this gun. It's always the same dilemma with J-frame grips - once you cover the backstrap for comfort, you lose concealability or at least pocket-friendliness.
