Hello I'm new to this forum I'm form huntersville nc. First thing I want to say is thank you to everyone who talks on this forum because I have learned so much on this forum. Anyways I have a few questions about my new sd40. After I purchased the gun I found out that the SD line was being discontinued. Is this a problem, I mean should I sell it back and get maybe a m&p. Also I have read some stuff on holsters for the sd40. But I want a level 2 serpa blackhawk holster and I am wondering if anyone is usin that same holster for there SD40. Thanks again and I love my SD. I think I paid a little to much for it but I really like this weapon.

As long as you like it, I would keep it. M&P holsters should fit it. Galco holsters I know make holsters for the SD model. Also if you decide you want a M&P, Bud's Gun Shop has police trade in .40 M&P with night sights for $429 shipped.

The regular SD line was discontinued, but it was replaced by the SDVE line which is virtually the same gun (different finish on the slide and different sights). You have nothing to worry about parts-wise.

Just as an FYI on holsters though - SOME M&P holsters will fit, some won't. I've got both and can say that the regular Uncle Mike's polymer holsters for the M&P do not fit the SD (their newer "Reflex" ones apparently do though). The Bladetech Revolution for the M&P does fit the SD, but the retention doesn't hold the SD as tight.

welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase!

I bought the Blackhawk! CQC Serpa holster...it's the level 2...it comes with both the paddle and the belt loop adapter which I liked for versatility...plus the CQC model is carbon fiber, which is supposed to be more durable than the polymer Sporster model. mine is in matte finish...they make one with carbon fiber overlay, but it's more expensive...I bought the left handed model...

the right hand model simply swaps the "L" at the end of the part number for an "R." it is also known as model # 25.

Walmart has them on their website for $36 plus tax last I checked...the important part it is the model number cause it fits my SD40 VE beautifully and the release is great! very easy and efficient to holster and re-holster...its definitely money well spent in my opinion! I love this holster!

SDVE holster

Fobus SWMP paddle holster fits the SDVE guns. To verify an exact fit for the SDVE I spoke to Steve Polankis at Fobus customer relations and he verified same.
FYI for holster searches and hope this helps those looking.

The SD40 and the SD9 were replaced in the line with the SD40VE and the SD9VE. The main differences in the original SD and the SDVE are the SDVE does not have (1) melonite treatment on the slide/barrel, (2) front night sight, (3) steel sights. I think those are the biggest differences.

For all intents and purposes, your have a more deluxe version of the SDVE.

The action and internals, magazines and accessories that fit, including holsters, will be the same.

Given that the SDVE Series is very popular and has an excellent price point, it is likely to be in the line for a long time.

I haven't posted in a awhile, I will say I've had no problems with my sd40 I've had for almost 2yrs now it runs great. I just wish S+W would make a .357 sig barrel for it.
