Congratulations! I love mine right out of the box, and have 1,500+ rounds through, absolutely trouble free. Many people like to do a trigger mod to lighten the pull, but I use mine for everyday carry, so a heavy pull is a good safety feature. Enjoy! And don't shoot your eye out! 😜

I don't have the 9, have the 40.

I think it is very comfortable to carry but I am 6'1" 200lb A buddy that is several inches shorter and much heavier thinks it's too big.

I really like the AlienGear Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB

Doc

I will second the Alien Gear. Cloak Tuck. I have the 2.0, because I got it a week before they came out with the 3.0. If you find the right spot on your hip, and use a decent belt, you'll almost forget it's even there. Great sidearm!

Sounds like an interesting story :) happy for you.
Is it new, if so have you shot this type pistol before, you will find it snappy at first & the mags hard to load all the way.

Same here as 1st pistol. Love it! 100 rounds strong right out of the box and no problems. Great value!

just got it yesterday ...with a alien gear 2.0 holster 200 rounds ...lock ...wondering what types of cleaning solvent and oils to use to clean it

I Bought mine a little over 2 years ago and have not shot it much. (425 rds.) I am getting use to the what used to be a brutal recoil (for me!)
I now find it very manageable. I am 84 yrs. and have RA. but I still enjoy shooting. I only shoot at the local indoor range, but I frequent it about 3-4 times a month.
Reason for the low count through the SD40ve is, I have a Shield9 and an MP9FS that I love to shoot. I plan on taking the SD40 next time out and putting about 75-100 rds. through it!

I went from a Beretta Nano to the SD9VE in an Alien holster. That is how comfortable it is to carry. I have twice the fire power and a gun that is much more of a fit for my hand than I did with a smaller gun. I also have a PT738 and a 9mm Shield I some times carry, but 95% of the time I have the SD9 on me.

I like to use MPro 7 Gun Cleaner and I use Hoppes Field Oil Wipes cut into patches to lube the inside of my barrel after cleanings and I use Outers Gun Grease on the slide rails and inside the slide where the barrel rubs the slide. And on the outside of the barrel as well. And on any metal to metal contact points that show wear.

Interesting you wrote this as I find the shield 9 to be snappier than the SD40VE. I actually chose the SD for my wife over the shield and she loves it.

Congrats! As far as anything wrong? There's not much to go wrong. Field strip it. If anything looks glaringly wrong, ask about it. While field stripped, give it a clean and lube. Put it back together and you should be good to go.

Other than the standard get some basic pistol safety and marksmanship training, the only advice I can offer is to be patient with yourself. Everyone wants to shoot tiny groups or bang steel at 25 to 50 yards right off the bat. Take your time. Set achievable goals, each goal increments in difficulty pushing yourself to get better. Make range sessions purposeful, yet fun, practice.

A simple pistol cleaning kit is all you need, I love the smell of Hoppes in the morning. A little oil and a very small amount of grease on the rails is all it takes.
Get a good gun belt, something that will support your firearm and holster makes all the difference.

Take it from a guy who's used every snake oil out there from sewing machine oil to the mythic Frog Lube. I've spent too much money over the years figuring this out. There are two ways to go. First is to use a dedicated solvent and dedicated oil. Second is to use an all-in-one.

For the all-in-one product, I have two that work. The first is good old Breakfree CLP. The second is Ballistol. The positive of Ballistol is that it is non-toxic. The bad part is that it has the aroma of sweaty gym locker room. Give either product some dwell time in the bore and you're good.

For a dedicated solvent, tried and true Hoppes No.9 is the best there is. For a non-toxic alternative, Slip 2000 Carbon Killer works like magic. The pro to Slip 2000 Carbon Killer is that you don't end up stinking up the joint with noxious fumes (even though I find the scent of Hoppes ok, my family does not).

For a dedicated oil, get yourself a quart of Mobil 1 Synthetic and a pin-point oiler. I've paid $$$ for ounces of gun oils that make fantastical claims that ended up being one vegetable oil or another. One quart of Mobil 1 Synthetic will last you a lifetime. If you require a grease, the only one I recommend is TW25B.

For cleaning kit, I'm old school. Give me a rod, brush, patch tip, jag, and a mop. Buy one of those Otis kits you find at Walmart to get yourself started. For patches, I prefer cotton patches over the patches made from synthetic material (feels like weak tyvek). Cut up an old T-shirt for rags and use them to wipe out the gun. Also a toothbrush works wonders to loosen any stubborn fouling in the slide and the breech face.

I am also a new SD9VE owner. I purchased mine last week and have already put over 400 rounds through it no issues. I liked it so much, I went out today and purchased the SD40VE as well. Went straight to the range with both, put 150 rounds through the 40 and another 100 through the 9. Really like them both. Recoil is not bad in either one.
