Wondering if anyone else has had this happen -

Put first 100 rds thru with no problems. Cleaned before & after. On 2nd 100 rds had 1 failure to lock slide back on empty mag. Cleaned & put 3rd 100 rds thru. Numerous failure to lock slide on empty mags.

Both are the 2 factory mags. Ammo is Winchester White box, 115 gr.

Anyone else having such issues? Found it odd doing it as I fired more rds & on both mags.

Thanks!

I didn't have that problem on my Shield but did at first on my M&P Pro when I used 115 grain rounds. Try running a couple hundred rounds of 124 grain bullets through it. For some reason that helped until my Pro got broken in. Also, make sure your magazine is properly seated. I think on my Pro that it may not have been completed seated correctly and when I got to the last shot it didn't recognize the magazine was out of bullets. Just a couple of suggestions. BTW, you can get really good deals on ammo from Freedom Munitions, that is where I'm getting my 124 grain rounds. First time buyers get free shipping so there isn't much downside. I prefer the "new" ammo but they do have reloaded ammo, called "reman" on their site, available too. Regards, Jim

Insert an empty mag, rack the slide (it should lock back) and verify the Slide Stop Tab is indeed making contact with the Follower and pushing the Slide Stop lever upward. Is the Slide Stop Tab Broken/Bent?

After ruling out a bent/broken Slide Stop tab...
Many times, an intermittent failure to lock the slide back after the last round is fired, is due to the shooter's thumb inadvertently nudging the slide downward.

After 3 yrs of owning a Shield and NOT having this problem, a Month or so ago, this happened to me and sure enough, it was my thumb placement. Go figure! :)

If you can definitely rule out thumb placement, check the Mag Body for possible burs/grunge and ensure that the Follower flows easily up and down through the mag body.

If the Tab is not the issue, the Follower slides easily without hanging and you can absolutely positively rule out that you're not hitting it with your thumb... Call S&W CS.

I was having this issue with my Shield periodically as well but it was completely due to my thumb placement. I was using the thumbs forward grip and noticed that one of my thumbs was resting almost right on top of the slide lock causing it to not always engage. I adjusted my grip a bit and have not had an issue since. This may not be your issue but I just thought I'd share my experience.

i agree, check your thumb placement.

i am a recent shield owner. when i dont focus on my grip and hold the shield like i hold my 1911 the slide never locks back because my thumb is on the slide release lever. my shield is flawless when pay attention to my thumb placement.

I think it was my thumb placement. No issues on the last 100 when I paid attention. Thanks all.
