New shield 9mm FTF

I just got back from the range. Shot 100 rounds of federal ammo with no issue at all. Gun fired every time and no FTF when loading in a new magazine.

That's good news. Do you think you did something to remedy the problem? Or maybe this was just a one-time thing?

I've gone through many 100-round boxes of WWB 9mm with no more issues than other ammo.

One day talking to the CS folks about some of my issues, they mentioned that the preferred ammo for the Shield is 124gr, but after some work, mine runs great with WWB 115gr FMJ.

Good to hear!
As I've mentioned in other threads, the only (Brass Cased) ammo I've ever had problems with (either FTF or FTE) were WWB Value Packs. I've considered the WWB Value Packs as 'Factory Seconds' that didn't make specs for going into the 50 round (racked) boxes. Visible OAL differences, some with rounded rims that make it hard for some extractors to grab, etc...
For local store bought (WM) stuff, Federal's my Go-to brand.

I'd say it's a combination of a very tight new mag spring and possibly not pulling the slide all the way back when chambering the first round. If it happens again, try loading 6 rounds in the 7 round mag and see if it happens again. I'm thinking you're getting a little too much resistance when stripping the first round. Yes, you should be able to put 7 in a 7rd mag, and no, you shouldn't have to break in the mags. But it's not a perfect world, and trying 6 instead of 7 for a while might help isolate the issue.
A "dead trigger" feel is not too likely to be ammo related, and for what it's worth, I have 100's of rounds of WWB bulk through my Shield with no issues at all.

I'm curious: what work have you done to make yours more compatible with 115 grain loadings? All I've ever shot through mine is either 115 grain WWB or 115 grain Hornady XTP, and I haven't had any issues...but if there are ways to make it even more of a sure thing, I'd like to learn!

This happened to me the first time I tried to shoot my Shield 9, I believe I didn't rack the slide back far enough to engage the striker or whatevsr happens when you rack the slide back, when I pulled the trigger it felt dead, I smartly racked another round in it and it has worked smoothly ever since.

I recently took my new Shield 9mm to the range a couple days ago for the first time and out of 125 rounds, only 2 got caught in the slide while feeding a new round. I simply pulled back on the slide & it popped out and I was able to fire again. This happened on 2 different brands/type ammo. Winchester "Train & defend" & Hornday "critical defense", I had no problems with WWB so I'm guessing that most likely its a new gun and just needs some shooting to break it in. The mag springs are very stiff and its difficult to get that last round in the mag however after a hr or so at the range, I did notice that loading the magazines were easier on the fingers. The 2 rounds that didnt chamber occured early on, my first mag and the last one was on my 3 or 4 mag. After that, I didnt experience any more issues. My guess is it just needs a couple hundred rounds or so to break in. The gun is pretty tight brand new.
