Hey guys, first off i'm not new to guns but this is my first handgun (actually second, bought a R51 and it was junk) so I apologize if this sounds ridiculous. I traded for a Shield 9, when I go to disassemble the gun I have to have the mag in for the slide to lock back and the same when I go to put the slide back on if I want it to stay locked back. I seen several videos online where guys are demonstrating this and they are operating the slide and getting it to lock back with the mag out of the gun. Am I doing something wrong or how can I fix this? If need be I'll just call S&W about it. Thanks guys....

Have you tried pushing up on the slide stop when you pull the slide back?

The plastic follower in the magazine is what pushes up on the slide lock & activates it.

You have to push the lock up manually if the magazine isn't in the gun.

I didn't see it mentioned in the manual but it probably was and I missed it, and you would of thought I would of tried pushing up on the slide lock, but obviously didnt.....damn handgun rookies anyways. haha thanks fellas.

Is this thread for real or is it the joke of the week?

Here's another tip...the end of the slide with the hole in it points away from you...
