Got my Shield out of CA DOJ prison yesterday. Bought it from a private party, he bought it BNIB from the LGS we did the PPT at. Never been fired. Prior to getting the Shield i had purchased a LC9, but traded it off cuz the trigger break was all the way to the rear of the triggerguard,i could only operate the trigger with the tip of my finger to the point that when it broke my trigger finger was pointing straight back towards me. The Shield is much better in that respect. I only got one 7 rd mag,the seller insists thats the way it came to him:rolleyes:so i'm looking for a 8 rd factory magazine and would like to get a mag extension for the 7 rd mag. Didn't find any info in the manual about dry firing. Don't have a holster yet but when i Mex carry it in my waistband behind my right hip it disappears and you almost forget its there its so slim and light. i'm thinking about blacking out the dots on the rear sight and installing a front night sight...anybody out there set your sights up like this? Pretty well set up pistol....Mike

Congrats on the Shield, they're really nice shooters! I carry mine in a Safariland/Bianchi model 135 Suppression holster at the 3 - 3:30 and like you said, it disappears. I've roughly 400-500 rounds through my .40 without a single hiccup.

The only modifications I've done to mine is I added Talon Grips and Ameriglo Pro I-Dot sights, specifically their SW-345's.

.44mag.com has Shield mags for $24.99 + $5 shipping.
Pearce Grips makes grip extensions.
Can I dry fire my S&W handgun?

Hope you enjoy shooting yours as much as I do mine, they're great little pistols!

Congrats on getting your Shield.
Dry Firing is okay, so do it a lot, in order to figure out which part of your trigger finger achieves a straight rearward pull (and doesn't twist the pistol).
(see any of the many "My Shield Shoots Left" threads).

Consider TruGlo TFX or TFO sights. I have the TFOs on my Shield and they are great, day or night/low-light.

I have two .40 7-rnd factory mags, in like new condition...$40.00 shipped for both. PM me if you're interested.

I'll include a free used but good condition Bulldog leather OWB holster.

You will really appreciate your Shield after having shot it a few times. Plenty of options available to personalize your gun. I strongly avoid carrying your Shield "Mexican carry" . Get a holster ans a good gun belt. A couple of light thin holster options to look at.

Thanks for the dry fire info, and thanks for the magazine offer except forgot to mention mine is a 9mm. I like the look and concept of the PJ holster, i'll look around for one.Still pondering the sights......

...Still pondering the sights......

The sight decision is one I struggled with for a while--researched them all and decided to go with the TruGlo TFX on my Shield.
After they were installed--really happy with the sights and glad I got them. They are awesome.

My 9mm Shield came new with 7 & 8 round mags, but it seems pretty common that dealers will snag a second mag and either drop the price a bit or just sell it separate.

That happened a lot with the .22 Compact. Advertised online at a great price, but only one mag. New out of the box at a local store? Two mags.

I've found a lot of 7s on sale in the low $20s, but 8s are a bit harder to find cheap.

I've not added or modified anything. I have a King Tuck for mine. Since I use those in other sizes, consistency in feel / location is important to me.

Enjoy it!

I noticed Garrett mentioned. He made a great one-off holster for me. It went with the pistol when the specific need ended, but it met all my needs and expectations.

Zoner,

Assuming they ship to CA, Quantico Tactical shows 7 & 8rnd 9mm Shield magazines in stock, $29.95 or three for $78. 44mag.com has the 8's for $24.95 a pop. Didn't check shipping on either but I've bought S&W magazines from both and it was a no drama deal.

Enjoy your Shield

Congrats on the new Shield.
Coincidently this morning I started looking into that front the sight deal. Right now I have my front dot painted orange, but was looking at replacing it with an Ameriglo Pro Glo with orange ring. Not sure offhand if it will work with the rear factory sight though, need to do more research.
Optic Planet has 3 different options for them.

AmeriGlo Smith Wesson Tritium Night Sight, MP Models Pro Glo SW-212-230-G, SW212-230-O, SW-212-230-GQ. Ameriglo Tritium & Fiber Optic Night Sights.

I shoot my 9mm Shield very well, I love the thing. I swear I shoot it better than my full size M&P's! Congrats on the purchase.

Congratulations on getting a great concealed carry gun! You will do as you see best, but from my perspective extended magazines tend to negate some of the advantage of a small gun. A lot of people (including myself some of the time) count on .380s in short stacks for protection. Shields come in full power calibers. I think, as a civilian, 6 + 1 of .40 S&W will sort out most foreseeable sell defense scenarios, but I often carry a spare anyway.

Holesters are a very personal decision that are hard to recommend, but I would suggest not ignoring on waistband holsters. The Shield's barrel is short enough that it hides nicely under a lot of untucked shirts, and it is SO comfortable. My Lobo enhanced pancake is my favorite, but everyone makes a pancake, it's a classic design for good reason.

i'm pretty impressed with the trigger pull on this gun. I shot DA revolvers for years. I haven't got out the "zebco" trigger pull gauge but when it breaks i have a teeny, teeny bit of muzzle wave that i can cure by focusing on pulling the trigger straight back. If it lightens up just a little during break in i'll be right where i need to be with the factory trigger. Going to the range this morning with a box of Winchester 115 gr target loads, will report back later......Mike

Sight options. One is the Shield the other is on a Glock. I much prefer the Glock style but that may be just me. Both are from Ameriglo.

range report

shot the Shield yesterday. 25 rds and it was time to go. Function was 100%,no fail to feed, fire,or eject. Meanest magazine spring i've ever been up against, i now know why you folks use the mag loader. My first nylon frame gun and was expecting snappy type recoil but found it very comfortable to shoot. The trigger pull proved to be a little heavy but the push flinch i.ve developed didn't help. This gun is well set up for what it's meant to do.....Mike

Dry fire a couple thousand times or buy an Apex sear to smooth out/lighten the feel of the trigger. In my opinion, you now own one of the best carry guns available anywhere.
