new shield

My first trip to the range with a new pistol is to test the "out of the box" accuracy. With outdoor ranges ill rest on the bench with sandbags to get the gun as steady in my hands as possible. I can easily tell within a few shots where if any adjustments need to be made.

Glad you figured out your issues; now enjoy :)

NICE! Glad to hear it wasn't the Shield. My first 25 shots, or so, were all left fliers. I really started concentrating after them. Shots are starting to land where I want them. I need to get back to the range, big time.
where are you finding ammo? or are you buying the range ammo?

I'VE been shooting my shield 40 for about 2 months now...taken it to the range 5 time during that period. I've noticed that each time i go, the first couple of round are off cause my hand flies off the grip. My fault not the guns. Each time, once i adjust for the grip and kick i get, i seem to be on center or slightly low to the right, which for me ( being a lefty) is my norm. I seldom if ever shoot farther than 15-17 yards. That's the length of my house. I need them to fall inside not outside.

what is it?
For example, I have given these things a try THREE different times, so I can honestly say they are terrible and I do not know why so many people like them.

1' groups at 10 yards are great!

That's awfull consistent to be just trigger - but it could be (maybe). If you can repeat that performance once or twice then maybe your sight picture ?

I hate to suggest altering a gun under warranty, but opening up the rear sight might be helpful More light on either side of the front sight might help.

You might also try using shoe polish to get rid of the white dots. They seem like they should help, but they don't.

Or you could get a brass punch and drift the rear sight just a bit (a tap or two )

I'm reluctant to suggest you send it back just yet. Beleve it or not, S&W is quite capable of making things worse. Your pistol seems like its good enough not to risk giving them a chance.

Just my opinion, of course.

I shot 40 rounds and the furthest was 15 yards and its still 4-5 inches left and 1 inch high. It seems not to be more off as I move back. Maybe the first rounds encountered burs or something. I think i will live with it and drift the sights to zero at 15 yards. Function was 100 per cent. Slide stop is kinda hard. If I zero it in at 15 yds, the gun should perform from close in to 25 yards. You cant ask it to perform like a full size 1911or a 4 inch 42 oz 686!!!
Its a keeper!! I have learned one trick that will help all of you shield owners who are shooting low .With your two hand hold in a crush grip as Mas Ayoob teaches, your support hand index finger is wedged right up under the trigger guard. As you pull
the trigger, apply force with that index finger pushing upward as you break the shot and you wont pull the gun down because your follow thru will be correct. Any of you that shoot the shield low,try it.Even dry fire it with no clip and rack the slide to double check its empty. As you dry fire you will notice the sight stays on the spot you aimed at
