I think my M&P 40 is going to be a little jealous ;)

I have been on the fence about this gun for about six months now. No matter how you look at it, price, size, looks. I was sorta thinking about a 642,but I kept coming back to the Shield.

I was reading another thread.....

I've got a Shield, too and so far I think it's a real success story. But I was just on another thread where quite a few people were complaining about the recoil assembly breaking and the factory sending them new parts.:(

Honestly, from what I've heard of the Shield, I'd buy one anyway, but it isn't something I like to hear.

I did notice the slide was a little stiff..it is what it is. I have read all about the RSA problems, I will order a extra to have on hand just in case.

One thing about my purchase. S&W eliminated the plastic box and also no longer includes the date fired casing. we went threw multiply boxes until one of the other sales clerks said they had eliminated the casing.

Cardboard box and the date fired casing was included for mine, purchased Dec 11 and manufactured in Nov 2015. I've never used the nice plastic box from my 9mm full size so don't mind the cardboard. (but then, I like the wine from the cardboard box too!)

Got a really nice little zipper case for my Bodyguard that I will occasionally use. Bought this last week and it also has the date fired casing.

I have a 642 also; the shield is much easier to conceal and shoot well. The 642 has a terrible trigger IMO.

Cardboard box and date fired casing were included with mine as well. I purchased mine 11/29/15

I'll be curious to see this weekend when I pick mine up (10 day California wait list). Since we have a requirement for locked case for transport, I wonder if California models will come with the plastic hard case?

Congrats! The 1st 4 shots I got a dead on bullseye from 10 yards wit my M&P 9 Shield. 1st time I shot a handgun too!
I just wish the black coated finish on the stainless steel wouldn't wear off and scuff so easily. But this is a gun for self defense, to carry, and to shoot at the range with. So that is totally fine.
You will love your Shield!

The dealer I bought the gun from (large very reputable)Stated that The fired case is only mandatory is some states and comes at additional expense, so he opts for the cheaper version. Anyway 2 more days till I get it. All parts lock manuals in a S&W cardboard box.
