New Shorty 40 mk3 and a couple questions

I recently picked up a new to me Shorty 40 mk3 from Gunbroker. It is in excellent, but not perfect condition, say about 95% and has no box or paperwork. As I intend for this to be my every day carry that is exactly what I was looking for.

Is the slide on these blued carbon steel? The finish is very black and I was just curious if it may be some type of melonite or other finish.

Does anyone know for sure if I can replace the rear LPA adjustable sight with a fixed Novak sight? It certainly looks like the same type of dovetail as I have on my 4013TSW, but would love to know for sure before I try to remove and replace.

The slide to frame fit and barrel to bushing fit on these guns is amazing, far superior to my other TSW guns. I wish the Performance Center was still making these.

The S&W Shorty pistols are my favorite...lucky to have each caliber. They are unbelievably accurate. You've got a beauty there! Congrats.

Some did not have adjustable sights but novaks instead (or so my memory tells me) so my assumption is you could do that. Not easy to swap sights outside of a gunsmith without leaving some marks...can be done with the right tool.

Yep, the adjustable sites are always the most desirable ones to me anyway. I believe this to be the best shooting or one of the best shooting 40 cals ever made. They are so smooth and run like butter. They are based on the 4006, and as you stated they are better than the TSW versions of the same gun.

I have no idea what you paid for that piece but they tend to fetch a pretty penny these days with everything together, and they are a Lew Horton limited piece to only 500 examples.

Just to follow up. I did replace the rear adjustable LPA sight with a factory fixed Novak (Part#107920000), and that required a lower front sight (Part #1019070000). Nothing wrong with the adjustable sight, but I feel a little more comfortable with the fixed sights for a carry piece. The sights are right on, and I continue to be impressed with how well this Shorty .40 shoots and handles the recoil. Now to decide on some high quality leather to carry it in.

If you want some good leather take a look at Milt Sparks. Custom made and you will wait maybe 6 months, but worth the wait.
