Hello all. I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I purchased a SD40VE last year and have made a few upgrades. I polished the barrel and added a Hogue rubber grip. I also replaced the factory polymer guide rod with a Galloway Precision stainless rod and 20 lb. spring per Galloways recommendation. Gun has functioned flawlessly before the rod/spring mod and after with probably 400 rounds total fired.

Next I plan to change the rear sight and try either a Galloway or Apex trigger kit.

Anyone have any suggestions or part numbers for a S&W direct steel replacement sight?

Anyone have a suggestion on which trigger kit works better, Galloway or Apex? Galloway has the extra sear spring, Apex doesn't.

Anyone ever just change the striker spring to the Wolff 3.5 lb model? How did it work for you?

Thanks.

I did the Galloway spring kit and take down lever. I feel my trigger is light and smoother.

And welcome to the forum fro MS.

Welcome to the forum from Texas.

I put the Apex spring kit and AET trigger in my SD9VE. Trigger pull is down to almost 6lbs. through the spring kit and the AET trigger reduced the pre- and eliminated the overtravel.

How have you liked the Galloway guide rod at 20lbs so far? I am probably going to be betting that so getting some feedback from users would really help. Most likely won't do a trigger job. State I live in, the pull is at 7lbs or so. Felt awesome at the shop I test drove it at.

Welcome to the Forum. I haven't changed a thing on my SD40VE; I like it fine just how it was made.

Raszillion....I just didn't care for the plastic guide rod. After talking with a gunsmith at Galloway Precision, he told me to go with the 20 lb spring in my SD40VE. Gun has been perfectly reliable with the new spring. The SD9VE and 40 both come from the factory with a 17 lb spring. Doesn't make sense to me.

I got my Wolff #30085 Sigma 3.5 lb striker spring in the mail today. Put it in and ran a couple mags through the SD40VE. Gun performed perfectly. I compared the primers from before and after the spring change, they look about the same. Trigger is lighter all the way through the pull and also seems a little less gritty. Never checked the poundage with the factory 4.75 lb striker, but it definitely feels better. I'm happy with the trigger pull now and don't think I'll do any more spring changes.

I just recently bought the apex spring and trigger upgrade. I've noticed the Galloway kit also comes with the sear spring. Do y'all thing it would make a big difference to order the sear spring? I'm fixing to order the stainless guide rod with 20lb spring. What do y'all think? Welcome to the forum I'm also a new guy.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the Galloway stainless guide rod and 20 lb spring. I am. You might try just the Wolff 3.5 striker spring. They are $3.89 each, and on a tip from a Glock guy I tried just the striker spring and my trigger pull feels much better. He told me the striker spring would make the biggest difference in weight of pull vs. the other springs. I use my gun for EDC/HD, so I just want to make sure it functions perfectly and fires every time the trigger is pulled. So far it has.
