new to me 28-2 age? value?

I think there is a chance the box is later than the gun. I thought the border on the cover would be solid instead of serrated lines.

The solid lines came first, and the hash mark border later. The box in the picture has "A Bangor Punta Company" on it, so it is contemporary with the gun. I just checked the safe and I have Bangor Punta boxes with both styles of border. The earlier examples are solid, but I don't know when the crossover point was. Pre-BP blue boxes all have the solid line, at least among those in my collection.

Don't SW's usually have sort of a multi-color look on hammers and triggers from the bluing process?
They have colors but it has nothing to do with bluing. It is called "case hardening" and it is a process that puts a veneer of toughness on the surface of the steel without affecting the malleable nature of the underlying metal. Hence, the hammer is tough, but not brittle.
