1977-1978 -- You will love it -- One of my favorite S&W's

57s with a 4" barrel are cool. And you won't have to worry about reducing its value by shooting it.

I have a model 58 that I was lucky enough to find sitting in a local gun shop, it's basically the same gun as yours only with fixed sights and no shroud on the ejector rod. You're going to love the 41 magnum; I love mine.

I carry mine as well, in a Desantis Thumbreak holster, pancake style. I can open carry in my state, so concealment isn't an issue for me. With a good belt, it doesn't get too heavy or cumbersome at all.

Great guns, these N-frame 41 magnums.

That is a great revolver, and I`m sure you`ll love it and _NO Offense intended here- but it`s just ratty enough you can have a good time and not worry about a scratch or two. I wonder how a little rub down with an oil soaked 0000 steel wool & nice coat of wax would look? I`ll bet she will improve a lot.
Enjoy it and get into reloading to make shooting it affordable.

41 Magnum

I ordered 1,000 cases from Starline Brass. I load for all of my other calibers with a Dillon 550. I am sure this pistol will clean up well. I will hit the worn areas with oxy blue cream. It will make a good shooter.

I love my 58. I reload and shoot the heck out of it! You will love your M57. I have a Dillon SDB and I have a load that works. 7.4 grs of W231, Win brass, Win LP primer, 210 gr. XTP. Accurate. Use some Ballistol and clean up yer gun. It helps keep it easier to clean, and it removes lead, too. Good shooting! DW

Congratulations and best of luck with it!

The .41 Magnum is a great cartridge and a Model 57 is an excellent choice to shoot it from! :)

41 Magnum

Timing and lock up are fine. Very accurate revolver!!!!! I am glad I finally have a 41 Magnum to keep my other N frames company.

8.0 grains of Unique with just about any cast or jacketed bullet between 200 and 230 grain will give 950+- fps and a very accurate load.

I mainly use the 210 Berry's plated bullets with 8.0 grain of Unique. Very accurate, no smoke and no leading to deal with...

...and one day you could send it to Ford's to make it beautiful again...

It only took me six shots out of my new s&w m58 in 41magnum for the love affair with the s&w n frames to begin. You or anyone new to the s&w N frames and the 41magnum or any other caliber in the N frames will love it too. There a pleasure to shoot because of there power to weight ratio design being spot on. The big revolver just feels right in my hand even before I shot it. Let's not forget a handgun is an extension of our arm. It becomes one with our body when we hold it. It's like hugging a pretty woman you know it feels right and you don't want to let go.

All I can add is if you don't own a s&w N frame revolver you should give one a shot. I been a gun nut for over 50 years+ I'm new to s&w revolvers and I find them to be awesome. Plus there part of our history in America.
We can own, touch and shoot a part of America's legend.

S&W "N" Frames ROCK!!!!!!!!

The S&W 41 magnum rocks too. Too bad the internet wasn't around back then. None of us had a way of ever knowing about this unsung caliber. She's between the s&w 357 magnum and the 44 magnum calibers. The 41 magnum is in its own nitch. She has more power over the 357 magnum which is no slouch too. Yet really close in power to the 44magnum yet easier to handle. There are a lot of shooters who don't like the recoil of the 44 magnum. This awesome 41 magnum caliber is for them too who want something more powerful than the 357mag. I love my 44's but I also love my 41magnum too. Darn I love all the big bore magnum handguns including tne 45long colt.

As us older shooters become wiser and we find the bigger bore handguns harder to shoot there's always the 41magnum there to please us and keep the fire lit and thrill on the inside for us. Trust me as I get older I need to shoot something more comfortable to shoot. The 41magnum will fit any shooters needs young or old. Don't miss out on this great caliber. God bless, bigbill

I just got rid of a 76-77' vintage 57 on Friday! 8 3/8 bbl. all the papers and tools in a presentation case. I didn't shoot it in over two years so it was time to move on. Probably be trading the rest of my S&W's when other guns come along!

41 Magnum 6"

I sold all my pistols 25 years ago. Then last year I started buying guns again. The first one I bought was a mod 57 6" Blued 41 magnum. It is my favorite gun to shoot. Even though I now have a choice of guns to shoot it is still my favorite to shoot.
Regards,
Harold

I don't have a 41 magnum. I've really never thought about it too much. Well, that is, until reading this post. What model should one look for if they were to look? LOL Say in probably a 4" barrel, nicely blued also. I only have one 4" Smith and I'll just bet a 41 magnum would be a blast to own and shoot. Pun intended.

A model 57 adjustable sights or 58 fixed sights.
Both are rather pricey now with the 4" barrel.
A gun well worth hunting for though in my opinion.

My 57 is the most finicky gun I own.

It can never decide on what shoes to wear.

They tend to be quite accurate more so than I

Man that's a beautiful revolver and I'd love to own one that looks that good. Looks brand new.
