I have always loved the S&W 3rd Gen. handguns. I had a 3913 that I used for CCW, that I traded away when I caught the polymer bug. Biggest regret I have about trading/selling guns.

Well, today I traded my M&P 40 for a very clean S&W 5906. There is just something about an all metal gun. It feels great in my hand, but may be a little heavy for all day CCW duty ( I have a Ruger LCP for that role). I mainly wanted it for HD/Range use. Now if the weather would just warm up some so I can go shoot it.

Very nice. The 5906 is built like a tank. Yours looks really nice and with the adjustable sights should suit your needs perfectly. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely a fun range gun, one of my favorites. Also good for home defense, agree a bit hard to ccw. Keep an eye out for another 3913. Nothing wrong with a 2 or 12.

Nice pick up! Had my 5906 at the range yesterday and noticed that some young tupperware shooters kept eyeballing it!

I understand. Every time I saw one at the range I couldn't help but stare.

I avoid the remorse associated with selling guns by never selling guns!

Just buy more. Never sell!

Congratulations on the 5906, nice shooting auto. I like the comment one of the members here said once about the SS gen 3's..... You need a sturdy belt.
Had mine out Saturday when it warmed up to 30°.

Is there a way to decipher the Serial Number to see how old it is.

Yes, give or take a year, but we can usually get it right on the forum. What is the three letter prefix? I can already tell by the square trigger guard it's between '88 and '91ish.....

Well, I carried my 5906 last night, IWB. It's definitely possible to carry that way under a baggy sweat shirt. Only down side is I kept having to hitch up my pants.

Once I discovered Perry Suspenders I found I can carry anything I want, including a 1006. I wear them UNDER my shirt, even against bare skin in the summer. They have hooks that grab your belt and hold it up---it's like they were designed for IWB carriers.

That's my problem too with a heavier gun. It's not the bulk, it's the weight. With heavier guns you need a really tight belt or as stated above, suspenders. I like a lighter weight gun with a normal belt tightness for absolute comfort and all day carryability.

The picture did not work.

I have the TSW variant of the 5906 & enjoy it a lot. Its big fun at the range & like my other 3rd Gens never fails to draw comments from other shooters. Most of the time I'm the only one not shooting a poly pistol. I've got nothing against the polys & in fact own a couple, but they just don't affect me like my 3rd Gens!

Nice find! I wish there were more of those to find around here. One of the LGS told me last weekend that when they get "one of those old metal jobs" we have an outlet to auction or trade, we don't have the space for them.

I told him I see a lot of space in those glass cases. He looked at me weird and said, where? Mrs. Chillock said right there. Get rid of the plastic.

We both laughed, but the salesman didn't. hmmm... oh well.

I guess he don't have a sense of humor.
