Stopped by the LGS on the way to the range today and found a model 64 no dash! I have wanted one of these for a while but could never find one at a reasonable price. In fact, this one is only the second I've encountered for sale in person and the other was asking considerably more. They seem to be very uncommon. I got it for $500 + tax. I feel good about the deal because I've seen them bring more online. It seems the value of these has been increasing, but I welcome the experts' opinions. Also, I thought it would be a good stablemate for my pair of 10-7s and my 64-3 heavy barrel. Came with a blue box with the metal corners but the end label was missing. I suspect it probably fell off with age. Serial number is D541xxx, dating it to 1973 according to SCSW. The revolver had very light burn marks on the cylinder, but no other real evidence of use. Probably test fired and then put in a drawer. Test fired it with 25 rounds of my handloads with a 158 gr cast lead flat point at 25 yards and held a group under 2 1/2"! The action is among the best I've felt in a DA S&W! it felt like someone put butter or grease inside! I guess that's a testament to the quality control back then!. Here are the obligatory pictures:
I couldn't resist a gratuitous picture with its tapered barrel stable mate, one of my model 10-7s that I happened to have out of the safe, for salt and pepper tapered barrels (I know the collectors frown on them being called pencil barrels)
