Today I got my model 66 out of the California 10-day. I bought it from the original purchaser who is a dear friend and mentor to me. It's an early one from what I'm reading. Model 4K941XX it's in pretty good condition and the action is smooth and locks up very good. It has about 200 rounds through it. The rear sight is bent up a little. Previous owner had removed it while carrying it. This is my first revolver. To me it looks like its missing a piece to the sight. Everything I have for it is pictured. It looks like a nut slides under it of some type but I cant find a diagram
Any hints on cleaning her up?

There is a small square headed screw that threads into the elevation screw protruding below the sight. That square head slides into the slot in the top of the frame. Then the small screw holds the front end of sight in place. Check Numrich's website-its called elevation stud and sells for $5.90.

Sweet, thanks for the fast reply, I just got the sight pretty straight too.

That's a beauty love the no dash's. That one stil has the trigger stop in it. I know the all SS sights are a bit of a pain but I love the look and glad one is sitting in my safe.

I am reading and finding out they're fairly collectible. I don't know the year or anything about it. The guy I got it from paid about $50 for it in the early 70's and I gave him $400 for it. More so for the meaning behind the deal. I more than likely will never get rid of it. It has more value to me from the man I got it from.

Can anyone lookup the year of this?
4k941XX are the last 3 digits the number produced?

Congratulations on the purchase of the no dash Model 66 and you did well on the deal. I had one and they are great shooters.

Sandeggo, I have a 67 no dash, with the all stainless sights. They add to the gun's value somewhat from what I have read. Depending on the stainless sheen that you desire, you can polish your gun with Flitz, or Mother's mag Wheel Polish. If you hand polish it, will look like nickel SHINEY finish. My 67 is polished, my 65 isn't. Depends on what look you are going for.
You have a good gun, that properly taken care should last a lifetime, and then some.
WELCOME to the Forum! Bob

I was wanting to get some of the light scuffs out of it. It's kinda like the swirls you see on a black car on a sunny day. I don't wanna get it too shiney nickel sounds about right. Thanks bob

It was clearly bent not bowed. Took it to the range today and the original owner met me there with the sight post and original grips. It shot really well after the grip change. My big hands were a lot more comfy. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1324077607.932969.jpg

Nice... I just traded a glock19 for a 66-1 with box, tools, and all paperwork ... It seems like it has a wide trigger compared to my 586 and 28-2... Mine is 6 inch barrel though.... Love your 4 inch

Well I cleaned it up a bit, it's coming along. I used brasso which worked pretty well. I wish I could take better pictures but what can you expect from a phone.

Welcome to the 66 no dash stainless sight club, now get out there and shoot it, you'll love the trigger. Do check the hammer, Some early 66 no dashes would drop the hammer in SA by just pushing hard on it. My 2K serial# was that way.

I shot about 50 rounds through it today but didn't know about the hammer, I'll check it next time out. Love the fireball this thing throws with magnums.
