Just picked up a clean model 64-3 S&W heavy barrel, went out to shoot and really enjoyed this gun. Not really a fan of the target grips so I put some other grips on there. I was told the grips are worth a little bit, any idea on value, probably sell them if they are worth something to cover ammo costs.

What can you guys tell me about this particular model? I picked it up more out of curiosity, as I was hoping for a pencil barreled model 10 with pinned barrel as those are my favorite. I have a model 15-3 that I love as well

Picked it up as a carry gun from a holster maker who never shot it, sold my colt 70s police positive for it (not a colt fan as much)

Thanks,

I love fixed sight revolvers and the Model 64 is one of the best. Like you, I am not a fan of the Target grips (too big) so I use Ahrends or Hogues grips which feel much better (I have medium size hands).

The 64-3 was produced from 1977 to 1988 (back when revolvers were the guns of choice for cops and security personnel). S&W made a "pencil" barrel 64 only from 1970 to 1973, which is much lighter, but not nearly as intimidating looking as the heavy barrel model. I have both and they are both very accurate.

Beautiful photos!!!

I will have to look into the houge one, I have some old school pachmayrs that arent too bad

Cool pics and a really nice looking 64. You should ask a premium for those targets, they're beauties. I think I'd hang on to them though. A few years from now you'd be wishing you hadn't gotten rid of them.

Put your Targets in the appropriate FOR SALE forum here. I think you'll have no problem getting $100 for them. Perhaps a bit more with better high quality in-focus pictures.

The rubber Hogues are the best grips for that gun if you are going to shoot it. They make pointing the gun as easy as pointing your finger and give you more grip if your hands are wet. I know, they are not as nice to look at as a pair of French walnut Ropers but are you going to shoot the gun or look at it?
