Hello all. I'm new to the site here and have a question related to my S&W S/S 66-3 3" .357 round butt.
I special ordered it from the factory in 1988. Serial # is BBT16XX. It's marked 66-3 on the frame where the cylinder assembly opens. The part that pivots open and holds the cylinder is also stamped on the inside with an "8 1 4", but the numbers don't look like a roll mark, they're not in a straight line (kind of a high-low-high pattern) and unevenly spaced. They look more like they were hand stamped.
I was wondering what these were. Part of the production quality control marking? Marks indicating who made/finished the part(s) or assembled them? Are they supposed to match any part of the guns serial number?
Any information is appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum. The extra numbers you see are factory internal codes that are not related to the SN. In the past you would see the same number on the frame and yoke because these parts were fitted together before and reassembled after finishing, but at the time your 66-3 was made this was no longer done. The meaning of most of the other letter or number codes is not known. Hope this is helpful.
