Hello all. I'm new to the site here and have a question related to my S&W S/S 66-3 3" .357 round butt.
I special ordered it from the factory in 1988. Serial # is BBT16XX. It's marked 66-3 on the frame where the cylinder assembly opens. The part that pivots open and holds the cylinder is also stamped on the inside with an "8 1 4", but the numbers don't look like a roll mark, they're not in a straight line (kind of a high-low-high pattern) and unevenly spaced. They look more like they were hand stamped.
I was wondering what these were. Part of the production quality control marking? Marks indicating who made/finished the part(s) or assembled them? Are they supposed to match any part of the guns serial number?
Any information is appreciated.
