Our old venue is no longer available. We have decided, at least temporarily, on a rotating venue attached to more mainstream gun shows.

This Month, Saturday, November 7, 2015 we will meet at the Fort Pierce Gunshow. Member Al Jasaitis has 4 of his own tables and has reserved an adjoining table for the S&WCA South Florida group a/k/a the Hole in the Wall Gang (adapted from our past venue which was very small)

Doors open at 9AM. We will be set up by 10AM. Look for Al "Big Al" Jasaitis of "The Gun Collection" and his wife, Vida, and look for me, Sal Raimondi. Unfortunately, Mike Borkovic won't be able to make this meeting as his wife recently had surgery. We all wish Mike's wife a speedy recovery.

We invite ALL S&W collectors and enthusiasts to come meet with us. Bring your best for show and tell or items you'd like to sell.

Location:

Havert L Fenn Center
2000 Virginia Ave,
Fort Pierce, FL 34950

NOTICE:

After this month's meeting, I will be resigning from my unofficial position as one of the coordinators of the South Florida "Bunch" and the guy that has to contend with various personality conflicts and disorders for my efforts. I prefer only to be a visitor of whatever South Florida meetings there may be no matter who organizes them.

The South Florida "Bunch" was the sole concept of Mike Borkovic who is due ALL the credit and applause for suggesting the concept of getting South Florida Members together on a monthly basis. I had absolutely NOTHING to do with the founding of same. I only helped in the coordination to a very minor degree.

For all future South Florida "Bunch" meetings, contact Mike Borkovic, (gmborkovic) directly as it is entirely his baby.

If any of the regulars or other Florida members ever want to meet up to socialize, count me in. If any member are planning to travel up my way in Palm Beach County, members are always welcome to call me to stop by my ranch for a visit when mutually convenient. (No admission cost )

If any other members are having a different S&W local collectors social event or any kind, just email me or post on the forum where and when.

In parting, my best regards and well wishes to Mike Borkovic and the future success of the South Florida "Bunch" which I will still attend, when possible ... as a visitor, only ... void of any unofficial capacity. Peace, out ! Sal

All S&WCA members and S&W Enthusiasts (non-members) welcome as are accurized or fine target pistols & revolvers enthusiasts. Look for us there. Bring your nicest S&W and / or target gun to show off.

Ask for S&WCA members: Sal Raimondi (me) or Mike Borkovic or Al Jasaitis.

Bring your old (or newer) S&W's for a free appraisals (one gun per person only) to anyone mentioning they saw this post in "the Forum". I am Life Member of the S&W Collectors Assn and Licensed by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation as Auction house owner.

Al Jasaitis is the owner of "The Gun Collection" in Pompano Beach, Florida. Check out Al's website at: The Gun Collection, LLC

Our South Florida local chapter of the Smith & Wesson Collectors Association, a/k/a South Florida "Hole in the Wall" bunch, are off to a great start and now third meeting.

I believe I can speak for all of us that we are very pleased to be off to a good start, hoping it only grows larger. This was the brainchild of Mike Borkovic and myself with Al Jasaitis who immediately jumped in to actually make it all happen although he had not yet become a member (and now is a member). That's dedication, I think.

Our first meeting on Sunday, July 12, 2015 was a success. August 9, 2015 brought 2 new member. September was no meeting. October 11, 2015 brought new member Joe O'Neill who is well known to all us locals for the past 20+ years.

Of our regulars who attended were:
Mark Calzaretta, Brad Whidden and Allen Perrin who ALL never cease to bring interesting and different model S&W's. Brad "the wiz" brought a pre-28 and a pre-19 in excellent condition and a stone cold mint .44 Magnum 50th Anniversary. I'm sure I'm forgetting some of them. My apologies. Allen brought his gorgeous N frames including a pre-29 in rich, deep, premium blue. Mark Calzaretta, who masters "all" S&W frames, brought his Performance Center McGivern Commemorative Model 15, (in flawless nickel) and a bag of other S&W goodies. Mike Stanley came by to hang with us, too.

I brought a Model of 1950 in .45 Colt on loan from a private collection, a few older M&P's, a RM and a few others.

Mark Sadolf (retired LEO and ace bullseye shooter) brought to "Frankesmiths". S&W Frames with Python barrels. I wish I had taken a picture of them. Ralph Zeltman (FFL), came back for his second meeting with a S&W .460 pocket cannon. I believe applications to the S&WCA are in for both Mark & Ralph.

New faces were William Peachey, and Dan Henson (Trooper Dan, retired career US Armed Forces who winters with us in Florida), with some very nice S&Ws including a 25-2 which occupied about a half hour of conversation from all. Also, my life long friend, Nick Blanda, came along with me just to see what all the fuss was about.

Al Jasaitis and Mike Borkovic were missed at this meeting. Al sent our S&W table cover over with Joe O'Neill that we would not risk having a less than proper "club" table.

Mike accompanied his wife, out of town, for surgery. To Mike: Our thoughts and our prayers go with you and your lovely wife for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Hope to see you next month or sooner.

We had a M&P .32-20 and another in 38 Special, both of the 1915 to 1920 vintage show up for appraisals.

We are hoping even MORE people attend our 4th meeting on November 8, 2015.

Tentative Schedule is the 2nd Sunday of every month, next meetings are November 8th and December 13th, 2015.

We are trying for multiple S&WCA club tables. There will never be less than one and hoping we soon have it up to several tables. LOOK for our S&W Banner and / or table cover.

It is a small, local, 1-day show (actually only 6 hours). You won't have any trouble finding us.

Once we have a regular turn out, perhaps we can organize a bank of tables for the S&WCA members should members decide to display, sell or trade.

Bring one of your favorite S&W's for a "show and tell" and / or one of your favorite bullseye guns.

Time will be from 10AM to 3PM at: $5.00 at the door to get in and good food available. It is a small, local, friendly show plus the burgers and the dogs are pretty good !

S&WCA Member, Al Jasaitis, always has 2-3 tables at this show and has supported us with the VFW. We hope to have a few more along side of Al. Were hoping anyone needing FFL services will visit Al at "The Gun Collection" in Pompano Beach, FL.

Very dear and old friend Joe O'Neill, welcome to the S&W Collectors Association. We are all very pleased to have you with us !!

comments and suggestions appreciated.

All "good" guys are welcomed even if you own a gun that is a "FOUR LETTER WORD".

Private joke: to S&W Collectors that 4 letter named gun ( C - O - L - T ) is a curse word and the name should never be spoken but I haven't met a S&W Collector yet that doesn't have at lease one stashed somewhere. :)

See you next time. Sal S&WCA LM#1300

I'd love to make it down, but it's a bit of a drive from up here in central Florida around the Sebring area and I'm old. Put me down for a future one maybe. Thanks for the invite though.

Dick, we are also trying to do a "get together", on a State-wide level, in Central Florida which I propose we do at a Lakeland Rifle & Pistol Club show albeit it's going to be tough to get a bank of tables for us.

Any other Florida State Members, use EMAIL from my contact info here with your contact info that we can correspond via email.

The South Florida S&WCA members who met on 7/12/15 calling ourselves

"The South Florida S&W Collector's bunch" but, after today's meeting ...

a/k/a
"The Hole in the Wall Gang of South Florida" (until the venue gets larger)
as the place was more reminiscent of a "Hole in the Wall" instead of a "real" show but was very friendly, extremely laid back and most comfortable.

I had no idea the show was "that" small but it all worked out nice anyway.

They tell me there were 2 conflicting shows and because it was SO hot, some attendees won't take a table for a 6 hour, Sunday ONLY show, but for our initial purposes, it worked out well.

In short there were about 40 working tables. The say on a regular weekend this show is approximately 100-200 working tables.

Members and enthusiasts came from 10AM to 2PM. I got there at 11:30AM missing surprise guests who came earlier.

Charlie, if I knew you were coming I would have arrived much earlier.

Much to my surprise (and regret that I didn't arrive earlier) were:

Charlie Flick
John Witty
Mike Stanley
Brad Whidden
Mark Calzaretta
Mike Borkovic
Me (Sal Raimondi)
member-elect Al Jasaitis
and Mark Sadolf nor sure if member or not.

Those of us that sat had a decent grilled burger and a Coca-Cola while we played show and tell had a blast.

I brought an old (no finish) Schofield 2nd Model that is functionally excellent so people could handle and play with out, without fear of losing percentage points on the condition.

Mark Calzaretta brought a stunning, factory engraved 649
Mike brought a neat 1938, S/42 Mauser P. 08. All matching, incl. mag. and Naval issue marked back strap.
Brad Whidden brought an interesting 52-1 sn in the 104xxx range, I think (Brad jump in to correct me) with a Bomar extended sight bar on a 52-2 short extractor slide.

Hoping to get bigger and better

South FL "Hole in the Wall" bunch, notes for August 9, 2015

South Florida S&W Collectors Assn Members and not-yet-member enthusiasts, "Hole in the Wall" bunch, notes for August 9, 2015:

To all members & enthusiasts. Our August 9, 2015 show went well for our second meeting ever.

NOTE: There will be NO September show / meeting. Next meeting show will be Sunday October 11, 2015.

>>> On August 9, 2015 Mike, Al, Vida (Al's wife), Brad and I were there. New collector / enthusiasts (and now S&WCA Member applicants): Ralph Zeltman and Mark Sadolf also attended.

Vida Jasaitis ( Al's wife ) baked 2 big tins of mini corn muffins that we enjoyed with our morning coffee. Vida's hobbies are baking and shooting. Thank you, Vida

New to the group: Ralph Zeltman and Mark Sadolf attended and completed applications for membership to the S&WCA.

Mark is a retired LEO, expert shooter and all round regular guy / show-off of superb pistol marksmanship.
Ralph is a retired FFL Dealer.

Brad gave us a lesson on post-war K variances, bringing several post-war K frames to show the specific differences / production changes whether marked with a DASH something or not. Absolutely remarkable presentation. When we get the attendance up, I will ask Brad if he would do it again to a larger audience. Nobody knows it ALL no matter how much we read, study or collect but Brad knows the heck out of these post-war K frames. Kudos to Brad.

Mark brought a 39-2 frame with a complete 52-2 upper hybrid target pistol he put together himself. What a good guy and great bullseye shooter. Just ask Mark and he'll proudly volunteer to show you the numerous videos on his cell phone of him blowing the center out of a NRA Target or completely eradicating a black dot the size of a quarter on a white piece of paper at 25 yard pistol range with several different type pistols & revolvers. He states that he could have shot better if he didn't have to hold the cell phone video cam in his other hand simultaneously. What a modest guy.

Ralph brought an early .32 top break lemon-squeezer revolver and shared many "back in the day" stories with us and hope he feels comfortable with us to bring in more nice S&Ws.

I brought a consecutive numbered set of profusely engraved 39s SNS: 109xxx with ivory grips. These are near the end of the 39 serial number range. I brought the engraved set mostly to show Mark Calzaretta (he's the engraved S&W guru) but I did not recall he wasn't going attend. I hope everyone else got as much of a kick out of seeing and handling them as much as I did by bringing them.

I also brought a full 39-2 upper I had recently purchased with a pro Millett sight conversion. Doing a Millett sight conversion to a 39-2 was a real PITA. It requires machining off the factory integral front sight (cast as part of the slide) to a create a new platform for the Millett sight which is staked in like the old 1911s were.

The Millett rear sight (resembling the wing level horizon gauge on an airplane) and the front highlighted sight pattern were always my favorite combination, even more so now that I'm getting older. S&W later manufactured a low profile fully adjustable rear sight (all black). While not quite as eye popping as the Millett, it does not require any alteration to the integral factory front sight. Roy was gracious enough to sell me and Mike a few factory 39/59 adjustable rear sights from his private stash awhile back. The Millett rear sight installs as the factory sight does (lift the forward tab then turn 90 degrees and lift) however the Millett rear sight without the matching Millett front sight it doesn't work properly where you'd likely be hitting extremely low from the high rear sight. I don't have a blue 39-2 lower to try the Millett upper on so looks like I'll have to try out the Millett combo on a 39-2 nickel frame.

Mike brought NOTHING but his shining personality (those are HIS own words). I must add that Mike did bring the official S&W CA table cover.

We hope to see you all in October if we don't meet before then. Also hoping many more "good" guys show up to share with us.

bump !

Ohioan here. I attended the recent 'Ohio bunch' gathering,my first one. I travel down to Florida a lot for automotive events(Daytona Turkey Rod Run) and Orlando/Tampa for rollercoasters. If I'm down there coinciding with your gathering,I'll stop in.

Mark & Ralph are two of the nicest guys you will ever meet !Ralph doesn't have to take a backset in shooting to anyone.....except for Mark! Mark can do that 25yd bit, with either hand AND...do it with either an auto or a revolver it doesn't matter!
