I'm certainly not new to handguns, but I'm new to the Sigma. A neighbor bought the gun (SW40VE), fired 1 mag, and let it sit. A month after buying it he decided he didn't want a gun, so I bought it for $250. He paid $379 +tax, probably was close to $450. So I think I did OK price wise on a brand new gun. He never said anything about the rebate, so I'm sure he probably just got the money back.

I'm not sure what I'll even do with it, or if it will have a role, besides just another gun. For woods carry I had been carrying a Sig 229, but with 2 extra rounds, and being lighter this might be a better choice.

Where is a good place to pick up magazines? Anything to be aware of?

What are your thoughts on holsters? I don't want a cheap IWB, or some Uncle Mikes nylon universal. I like holsters made for the gun.

What ammunition works well in these? For target I've got a lot of Winchester white box, and Blazer Brass, both in 180gr. I've also got a lot of Winchester Rangers in 180 grain for carry. Will these work OK in the Sigma?

Is there anything else I should know, or that you can add?

Thanks in advance, glad I found this place.

Congrats on the sigma, you won't be disappointed.

For your question on holsters I have a Blackhawk Serpa that I really like for mine as well as an IWB holster from high noon holsters that's ok.

I haven't had any issues with any of the ammo I've used, Winchester white box, wolf, even reloads.

Welcome to the forum SWWjeff.
Good price on the gun. I am sure you have been looking here, as there is a wealth of information on the Sigma at this site. Here is a sticky on different manufacturers of holsters and parts.

There are so many options out there as holsters are concerned. I prefer Kydex, composite, or some type of plastic for the outdoors setting.
Any ammo seems to work well. White box is great for practice, and I prefer Speer Gold Dot hollow points as good defense ammo for an affordable price. Make sure you run a few boxes or more of it thru the gun to be sure that the Gold Dots cycle, as I am sure they will.
I use my Sigma as a boat gun and in the woods when I go there.

SWWJeff, welcome to the club and congrats on your sigma!

Once you get use to the safe trigger system, I think you'll really like the sigma. It loves to be shot often!;)

Just to clear things up; the US made sigmas are just as good as the West German made ones. (LOL!, just kidding):)

Keep us posted and best of luck!

Welcome & congrats!!

Ammo, my 9VE eats the WWB ammo from Wally World like candy!

Holster, I agree with TDR911, check the sticky.
More and more companies are making Sigma specific holsters everyday.

Mags, I just ordered a mag for my 9VE yesterday from Midway on sale fo $30. I'm not sure if the .40 was on sale as well.

Enjoy!

Good price.
My holster Fobus HK1 paddleback.
Ammo WWB 165 & 180gr, Blazer 180gr, Federal 180gr hydra-shok
Magazines- I got 2 with the pistol & 2 on the rebate offer (+$50) I wouldn't trust anything but S&W mags. Try them all for function regardless if S&W or aftermarket brand X.
Any problems you have a S&W lifetime warranty. I sent mine back to S&W because I didn't think the trigger was resetting properly and it was returned with a 200% better trigger.
I picked up a XD45 Tactical, but the Sigma is still my main carry.

Welcome to the forum.
180's of any variety work well in my 40 VE. also 165s and 175s. Didn't do so well with the 155s, but the gun wasn't broken in then.

So far it's shot every brand I fed it except the lightweights (less than 100rnds thru the gun then). I'm getting some 165 bullets to reload in a day or so, and I don't expect any problems.

Welcome to the forum, new here too. My 9VE has had about 1800 rounds thru it in the 7 months I've owned it. it has eaten frangible to JHP , not one problem. now that I have jinxed myself.. you'll find the trigger will feel better as you shoot more and more. have fun. also I have the fobus paddle for it ,Very comfortable

Thanks everyone.

Went to the mountains yesterday and shot 250 rounds out of the Sigma. Not a single malfunction. I know these guns get a bad rap, but mine seemed to be quite the shooter.

I've owned a Kel-Tec p11 for years so the long trigger pull wasn't hard to get used to.

The first magazine I shot had some trigger finger sting, after that it went away though. I assume it just needed to be broke in, is that normal with these?

My 12yo son wanted to know why they call it a Sigma if it's not made by Sig.:p

My Sigma will shoot any ammo without a glitch. But I found Blazer to be dirty. There are a lot of Sigma haters out there so you can find some good deals at gun shows on guns and magazines. It's funny how people can go to the range, put 50 rounds through it, say it's a P.O.S. and sell it.
I personally think every gun needs 500 rounds for a break-in before you can ever try to judge it.

Remember, if you disagree with someone walk a mile in there shoes. If you still disagree, your a mile ahead and you still have his shoes.
